Khairul, Rose Together with STF Dompet Dhuafa
The earthquake shaking West Sumatra in late 2009 destroyed most of the area. After the earthquake, there were not only destroyed houses, but it was also the people’s economic wheel downturn.
Khairul, one of the people living in Lubuk Alung, Padang Pariaman, also suffered such misery. His house was razed to the ground by the earthquake and his business completely stopped.
“After the earthquake, I didn’t have any money for capital, my house was destroyed, and the education of my children was neglected. We just relied on other people’s help for having something to eat,” Khairul recalled.
Slowly but sure, this 56-year old man has risen and re-managed his life and family’s business. Using the aid from Dompet Dhuafa, through Social Trust Fund (STF) program, this father of five children is running more than one business.
“Early 2010, I received aid from Dompet Dhuafa as much as one million. The loan was used for capital of the sewing business. Alhamdulillah, since that time, it has been developing and resulting in profits,” said Khairul who knew Dompet Dhuafa from his friend.
Not satisfied with one business, this Padang Pariaman man borrowed some more money to open a new business. The profits from the business are used for sending his children to school again.
“I borrowed some money from Dompet Dhuafa for opening small shop. After being ceased for 2 years, now my son continues his study in college and he is in the 3rd semester now,” he added.
Khairul is so grateful for the existence of STF Dompet Dhuafa program. For him, Dompet Dhuafa is like an oasis in the desert.
“Alhamdulillah, the interest-free loan and collateral from Dompet Dhuafa helped the ordinary people like me. My family’s economy runs smoothly now,” he added. [nes]
