Etos ID Alumnus Achieves PhD Title, Focuses on Researching Alternative Fuel Cells in South Korea

BOGOR — Under the supervision of Dr. Gu-Gon Park, Rohib’s research group (an alumnus of Etos ID Jakarta education class batch 2009 of Lembaga Pengembangan Insani (LPI) Dompet Dhuafa)  focuses on developing Non-PGM catalysts for fuel cells, creating alternative catalyst materials that are cheaper, more abundant, with better performance than current commercial catalysts.

Reporting from the Alumni of The Month article made by Linked In account of Alumni Pendidikan LPI, Rohib admitted, “In the initial semester at KIER, I had a difficulty in handling laboratory equipment and speaking Korean, but I found lab colleagues who always helped and taught me patiently until it became an unforgettable research experience.”

From April 2023, Rohib will join IRCELYON in Paris as a Postdoctoral Fellow. IRCELYON is a joint research unit between CNRS and Universite Claude Bernard. He will become part of the CARE team and is responsible for the SAFHYR and ELOBIO projects in the development of catalysts and fuel cells to reduce the use of precious metals in catalyst design.

“PhD graduates have sufficient knowledge in their field of research. However, to become experts, they need more time and experience. I myself went on to the postdoctoral program to become a professor with an outstanding academic record. My goal is to contribute to technological advancements, especially in the development of renewable energy,” said Rohib.

“I was a child born from the womb of a mother who was only able to attend school until the 3rd grade of elementary school and from a father who graduated from Sekolah Rakyat (People’s School), but because of going through struggle, their sincerity and relentless prayer, it led me to finishing my postdoctoral study. So for brothers and sisters who are born from the same family background, nothing is impossible,” he added, optimistically.
