ZAGREB -— The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Zagreb expressed its high appreciation for the commitment and active participation of Indonesian philanthropic institutions, particularly Dompet Dhuafa, in the Islamic Center development program in Osijek, Croatia. This statement was made by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Indonesia to the Republic of Croatia, Mrs. Suwartini Wirta, at the Indonesian Embassy in Zagreb on Wednesday (July 9, 2025).
On this occasion, Ambassador Suwartini Wirta stated, “We highly appreciate the commitment of Dompet Dhuafa and other Indonesian philanthropic organisations who have shown genuine care and tangible support for the development of the Islamic Centre in Osijek. This initiative not only reflects the spirit of mutual cooperation of the Indonesian nation but also serves as an important pillar in our soft diplomacy efforts in Europe.”

Ambassador Suwartini Wirta added that the construction of this Islamic Centre is a tangible manifestation of Indonesia’s role in promoting moderate, inclusive, and harmonious Islam on the global stage. This project is also expected to strengthen the friendly relations between Indonesia and Croatia.
Furthermore, Ambassador Suwartini Wirta, who has served in Croatia since 17 November 2021, affirmed Indonesia’s support for the integration of Muslim communities in Europe, especially in European Union countries where Islam is officially recognised as a religion. “Indonesia fully supports the integration of European Muslim communities in EU countries, such as Croatia, Belgium, Spain, and Austria, where Islam has been officially recognised as a religion. This aligns with the values of tolerance and diversity highly upheld by Indonesia,” she concluded.

The Indonesian Ambassador also encouraged other philanthropic organisations to participate in the Osijek Islamic Centre development programme and similar initiatives in Europe in the future, as a concrete contribution to spreading the values of peaceful and tolerant Islam.
The development of the Islamic Centre in Osijek is expected to become a hub for religious and cultural activities that will bring great benefits to the local Muslim community and serve as a bridge for interfaith and intercultural dialogue in Europe. (Dompet Dhuafa)
