SOH will be present in Riau Islands: Humanitarian Voice for Palestine

JAKARTA — Years of endless suffering, in a land that should be full of history, culture and peace. The “peace process” has sounded like a fairy tale that is only beautiful to hear, but never becomes real. It is undeniable that atrocities continue to happen right in front of our eyes.

A viral video shows a 20-year-old Palestinian boy burned alive after an Israeli airstrike hit the courtyard of Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in the Gaza Strip, Palestine. This tragic incident happened on Monday morning, October 14, 2024, when the attack sparked a huge fire that engulfed the crowded refugee tents. The hospital housed civilians fleeing war, but became a silent witness to unimaginable atrocities.

Al Jazeera news agency reported that at least four people were confirmed dead and 70 injured in an attack on refugee tents inside the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital area in the center of Gaza City. War has been raging in Gaza since October 2023. Israeli attacks over the past year have caused a terrible humanitarian disaster in Gaza. The death toll reached more than 42,000 people and injured tens of thousands of Palestinians.

Amidst the ever-growing ruins and shattered dreams, there is one thing that remains burning in the heart of the State of Palestine: a voice. A voice that refuses to sink beneath the dust of destruction, a voice that must continue to be echoed.

In order to keep voicing the genocide against the State of Palestine. Dompet Dhuafa invites everyone to continue to speak out, through the Sound of Humanity (SOH) “Land of the Imprisoned” #Lantangkan Suara untuk Palestina”, which will be held on Sunday (20/10/2024) at Tugu Sirih Square, Tanjungpinang, Riau Islands.

Together with Dompet Dhuafa Riau Islands (Kepri), there will be a charity concert featuring Panji Sakti and other local musicians, to voice humanitarian solidarity for Palestine. In addition, this event will be held in collaboration with an alliance of communities, musicians, influencers who have the same concern for humanitarian issues.

Dedi Fadlil, Senior Officer of Creative Content Dompet Dhuafa, said that musicians are invited to participate in this event to continue to raise their voices for Palestine. SOH Tanah Terpenjara was organized in collaboration with local Tanjung Pinang musicians and several local stakeholders, with the hope of increasing attention to the issue of the State of Palestine.

“With this event, we hope that people can continue to speak out and care about the issue of genocide that is still happening in Palestine to this day. We will do everything we can to continue to speak out for Palestine, one of which is through this charity music event. Not only music, the event will also be filled with theatrical performances, joint prayers for Palestine and a donation auction from Panji Sakti as a musician who took part in this Sound of Humanity,” said Dedi.

In addition to musical performances from Panji Sakti, the concert will also be enlivened by a series of events, including poetry musicalization, poetry readings, and a humanitarian talk show entitled “The Land of the Imprisoned: One Year of the Attack on Genocide.” The event will be complemented by tausiyah, joint prayers, and performances from local musicians.

Panji Sakti also invited the people of Tanjungpinang to participate in voicing humanitarianism in Palestine.

“One year of the attack on Palestine has not stopped until today, so hopefully we will not stop voicing about Palestine. This time I will also raise my voice for our brothers and sisters, so friends in Tanjungpinang and outside Tanjungpinang, please come,” added the singer of the song ‘My Soul is a Cambodian Flower’.

When humanitarian voices begin to fade, Dompet Dhuafa remains consistent in voicing humanitarian issues in Palestine. At the charity concert that will be held this week, Dompet Dhuafa also presents exclusive merchandise in the form of a bracelet with a map of Palestine. All proceeds from the bracelet sales will be fully donated to support the Palestine Humanitarian Program.

Panji Sakti will also auction the book “Sejuta Surat untuk Palestina”, an anthology that presents 75 selected works in the form of letters, poems, illustrations and photos. This anthology is the result of collaboration with almost 400 young contributors who voiced the hopes, prayers and determination of young people to support humanity. The book auction will start at Rp250,000.

“I am one of the people who chose the content, the poetry, I will auction the book starting from Rp250,000, Insha’Allah the proceeds will be donated to Palestine through Dompet Dhuafa,” added Panji Sakti.

Voicing for the State of Palestine is a moral obligation, even though the hope that comes with it seems small and fragile. Every word spoken, every action taken, is a ray of light in the deep darkness. Perhaps, for some, it is like shouting into an endless abyss, but silence is more deadly than the effort itself.

So, we speak, even though we know our voices may not be heard far. We speak, even though we know that peace seems like a dream that keeps getting denied. Because, even a small hope is better than no hope at all. Because, as long as we speak out for them, the State of Palestine will never truly die.
