“Today, Alhamdulillah, we are visiting Pondok Pesantren Suryalaya. We hope to enrich the converts with wisdom and pearls of remembrance that will be valuable in the hereafter. Also, to provide fundamental knowledge to converts, donors, and strategic partners participating in this journey about the importance of the Convert’s Journey and GCSI agenda,” said Awang.

On their first visit, Dompet Dhuafa took the converts and donors, guided by Cordofa preachers, to witness the historical traces of Islam. This included the history of Islam’s arrival in Indonesia and the history of Pondok Pesantren Suryalaya. The participants were also taught how to use and practice Talqin Dzikir and then made a pilgrimage to the tomb of the founder of Pondok Pesantren Suryalaya.

“Today’s agenda includes guidance on Talqin Dzikir. We are being authorized to practice Talqin Dzikir so that our remembrance touches the heart, not just the lips. This will spiritually rejuvenate us, enabling us to love Allah wholeheartedly and appreciate His omnipotence. We are scheduled to make a pilgrimage directly to the tomb of the founder of Pondok Pesantren Suryalaya,” added Awang.

Ero Koswara, a representative of Pondok Pesantren Suryalaya, expressed appreciation for Dompet Dhuafa’s visit aimed at learning about Islamic history and culture in Indonesia.

“This is Pondok Pesantren Suryalaya, located at the foot of Mount Cakrabuana. Our village, once distant, is now visited by friends from Jakarta. We are proud and welcome you. Alhamdulillah, you have arrived here, thank you,” said Ero.

He recounted the origins of Pondok Pesantren Suryalaya, established by Sheikh Abdullah bin Nur Muhammad, known as Abah Sepuh, on 7 Rajab 1323 H or 5 September 1905. The Pesantren, initially just a small mosque in Godebag Village, Tanjungkerta, was named ‘Suryalaya,’ derived from Sundanese, where ‘Surya’ means sun and ‘Laya’ is the place of rising, symbolizing the ‘place where the sun rises’.

Ponpes Suryalaya adheres to the teachings of the Qadiriyah Naqsabandiyah order, which traces back to the Prophet Muhammad. This order became a mandatory practice for its followers, particularly during the tenure of Sheikh Shohibul Wafa Tajul ‘arifin, also known as Abah Anom.

Additionally, Dompet Dhuafa contributed Rp30,000,000 towards the development of the Suryalaya Pesantren Museum. The event concluded in the evening with a presentation by Dr. H. Suhrowardi titled “Knowing Oneself, Reaching the Divine” by Dr. H. Suhrowardi.

Awang wrapped up by expressing hope for preserving the love for Islamic history, ensuring converts remain steadfast and unified in their faith. He also emphasized the importance of not feeling alone, with the journey serving to bring joy and a sense of belonging in any mosque for all Muslims, including converts. (Dompet Dhuafa/Anndini)
