The Benefits of Reciting the Quran Every Day: Healing From Pain to Harvesting Favor

Keutamaan membaca Alquran

Recovering from heart disease to parents being blessed by Allah Swt are some of the virtues of reading the Quran every day. For this reason, there is nothing to lose if we take the time to read the Quran every day. Moreover, in every reading of the Quran there is a lot of goodness, which will continue to multiply.

“Whoever reads one letter from the book of Allah, for him one good. One good will be multiplied by ten. I did not say that ‘alif laam miim ‘ is one letter, but rather, alif is one letter, laam is one letter and miim is one letter” (HR Tirmidhi no. 2915. Rated saheeh by Al-Albani).

Based on the hadith above, it can be concluded that we can get thousands of goodness just by reading one verse in the Quran. Not only that, as the holy book of Muslims which also acts as a guide to life, the Quran contains a way of life as well as science. In fact, you could say that the science in the Quran provides all the answers to all questions and problems in the world and the hereafter.

Illustration of reading the Quran

Not only does reading the Quran provide a lot of rewards and goodness, it can also affect the human soul and mind to feel calmer and more serene. As mentioned by Allah in the Quran surah Yunus verse 57 that the Quran is a cure for all diseases in the chest, as well as a mercy for those who believe.

Therefore, there is no reason for us Muslims not to read the Quran. It would be even better if we read the Quran regularly every day. In order to be more determined to read the Quran every day, consider the following virtues of reading the Quran every day:

Intercede on the Day of Judgment

The first virtue of reading the Quran is that it will be an intercessor or helper on the Day of Judgment for those who read it. This conclusion is obtained from HR Muslim which reads:

“Abu Amamah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reported that he heard the Messenger of Allah (saw) say: Read the Qur’an for it will intercede for its readers on the Day of Resurrection.”

Will be Equalized with the Angels

The next virtue of reading the Quran is that one day people who read the Quran will be equalized with the angels of Allah SWT. This is as said by the Prophet Muhammad Saw. which is stated in HR Bukhari Muslim which reads.

“Aisha Radhiyallahu ‘anhu reported that the Messenger of Allah said: The one who recites the Qur’an and is proficient in reciting it will be with the angels who are noble and obedient to Allah.”

Elevated in rank

Not only getting rewards, people who read the Quran regularly will also be elevated by Allah Swt. This was said by the Prophet Muhammad Saw in HR Muslim which reads:

“Umar bin Khatab (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reported that the Messenger of Allah (saw) said: Verily, Allah will raise the status of a people with this book (the Qur’an), and with it He will lower another people.” (HR Muslim)

In addition, other hadith literature also explains the virtues of reading the Qur’an, namely that Allah will send tranquility, mercy and praise a people who recite the verses of the Qur’an, and also angels will circle around them.

“Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (saw) said: No people gather in one of the houses of Allah (mosques), to recite the Qur’an and study it, except that there will be upon them tranquility, and they will be surrounded by the mercy of Allah, the angels will surround them and Allah will mention them before His creatures who are near Him (the angels).” (HR. Muslim)

Loved by Allah Swt

On the other hand, when you start reading the Quran every day, it is better if you also memorize the Quran. This is because completing the Quran is the most beloved practice by Allah Swt. This is stated in the hadith narrated by Imam Tirmidhi which reads:

“Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that someone asked the Messenger of Allah (saw): ‘O Messenger of Allah, what is the most beloved deed to Allah?’ He replied: ‘What is the most beloved deed to Allah?’ He replied: “Al-hal wal murtahal”, this person asked again: “What is al-hal wal murtahal, O Messenger of Allah?” He replied: “The one who recites the Qur’an from beginning to end. Every time he finishes, he repeats it again from the beginning.” (HR Tirmidhi: 2872)

Turning Bad Behavior into Good

Reading the Qur’an with a calm heart and a happy feeling can change a person who used to behave badly, into a better one. Allah’s Apostle once said:

“The best of people are those who read and study the Quran and teach it to others.” (HR. Bukhari)

Healing from Heart Disease

Reading the Qur’an with an open and sincere heart can apparently cure diseases of the heart which include envy, jealousy, love to talk about the badness of others, feeling resentment and so on. This is stated in the hadith narrated by Al-Baihaqi which reads:

“Indeed, the heart can rust as iron rusts. The Prophet was then asked, “What keeps the heart from rusting?” The Prophet replied, “reciting the Qur’an and remembering death”.” (HR Al-Baihaqi)

Allah Gives Our Parents Favor and Protection

For a child who makes it a habit to read the Quran solely out of love for Allah and his parents, Allah will protect his parents and give them enjoyment, including a crown on their head as a sign of blessing, as the Prophet said:

“Whoever recites the Quran and practices it solely for the sake of Allah, Allah will give a crown on the heads of his parents and enjoyment on the Day of Resurrection and will be seen brighter than the sun, so that you will not suspect that the reward is due to the deeds of the reader of the Quran.” (HR. Abu Daud)

In addition to reading the Quran every day, you can also do alms to cultivate good rewards and help people in need. You can donate to Dompet Dhuafa through the Quran Alms program. The alms that you entrust to the Dompet Dhuafa program will later be distributed to Dompet Dhuafa’s educational and social programs spread across several parts of the country such as the Smart Hafiz Village Productive Islamic Boarding School located in Lido Sukabumi, Mualaf Islamic Boarding Schools in Manado and Banten, Tahfiz Houses, Mosques and Musallas in remote areas, as well as Orphans and Impoverished communities.
