PAKISTAN — The humanitarian organization Dompet Dhuafa has directly assisted victims of the floods in Pakistan. Together with other donors, Dompet Dhuafa has distributed humanitarian aid, including permanent housing, logistics, and food packages since last weekend.
“On behalf of Dompet Dhuafa’s management, I express our deepest condolences for the disaster. We are preparing disaster response efforts in collaboration with the Indonesian Embassy in Islamabad and the Indonesian Consulate General in Karachi,” said Herdiansah, Director of Dompet Dhuafa Construction, who is currently in Pakistan, on Sunday (September 18, 2022).

The Pakistan floods in late August 2022 were one of the worst climate disasters ever recorded. The monsoon floods caused by the overflowing Indus River turned parts of Sindh Province into a 100-square-kilometer lake, which was expected to take six months to recede.
In an image taken by NASA’s MODIS satellite sensor on August 28, heavy rains and the overflowing Indus River can be seen flooding a number of areas and destroying vital infrastructure in Sindh Province. Material losses are estimated at nearly Rp 150 trillion.

Currently, Pakistan is in dire need of assistance, especially humanitarian aid. Therefore, DD’s presence has been highly appreciated by the Indonesian Representative in Pakistan.
The Indonesian Consulate General in Karachi appreciates DD for its positive and prompt response in sending aid to the flood survivors in Pakistan. “Thank you, Dompet Dhuafa, for arriving quickly at the flood disaster site in Pakistan,” said the Indonesian Consul General in Karachi, Dr. June Kuncoro.

Dompet Dhuafa, according to Herdiansah, aims to complete the construction of two houses within the next five days. He hopes to build 100 houses. “The Indonesian Embassy has also invited us to present this house model,” said Herdiansah.
100 food packages were distributed in the first phase to four villages affected by the flood. These include Nawab Khan Rind Village, Muhammad Asyaf Rind Village, Haji Missari Rind Village, and Noor Muhammad Majsi Village.

In addition to basic necessities and housing construction, today, Tuesday (September 20, 2022), Dompet Dhuafa is assisting in the provision of MOVA (Mobile Evacuation) as a means of support for survivors in mobilizing in the area.
