Celebrating Indonesia’s 77th Independence Day, Dompet Dhuafa South Sulawesi Invites Orphaned Children to Shop Together

MAKASSAR, SOUTH SULAWESI — In the spirit of celebrating the 77th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia on Wednesday (17/08/2022), Dompet Dhuafa South Sulawesi invited 62 underprivileged orphans to go shopping together at the Ramayana shopping center on Jl AP. Pettarani, Makassar.

This “Shopping Together with Orphaned Children” program not only coincided with the festivities of Indonesia’s Independence Day but also fell within the month of Muharram, a time when orphaned children are honored.

The orphaned children participating in the Belanja Bareng Yatim program come from 8 partner schools of Sedekah Dongeng Dompet Dhuafa, including UPT SPF SDN Rappocini, UPT SPF SDN Garuda, SD Unismuh Makassar, MI Al-Fitrah UMI, UPT SPF SDN Kumala, UPT SPF SDN NHP, UPT SPF SDI Mariso II, and SD Negeri Mawas.

With the guidance of Dompet Dhuafa volunteers, the orphaned children were allowed to choose items they desired. The children were seen enthusiastically selecting items ranging from shoes, sandals, bags, to clothing.

Social Program Coordinator Syarif Sarifuddin said, “The activities planned by Dompet Dhuafa are expected to bring happiness to children of this age.”

This activity was also supported by Dompet Dhuafa donors who have entrusted their donations to help orphaned children in need.

One of the orphan beneficiaries from SDN Garuda, Regina Putri Cantika (10), expressed her gratitude for the gift and thanked Dompet Dhuafa. “Thank you, may you be granted a long life and abundant blessings,” she said. (Dompet Dhuafa / South Sulawesi)
