New Light for New Muslims in the Riau Islands, Cordofa Launches the PEMULIA DD Program

RIAU ISLANDS — Dompet Dhuafa, through the Corps Dai Dompet Dhuafa (Cordofa), officially launched the Indonesian Muslim Conversion Program (PEMULIA DD) in the Riau Islands region. The official launch took place on Thursday (May 29, 2025) at Raja Hamidah Mosque in Kabil Village, Nongsa District, Batam City.

In his remarks, Ustaz Abdul Karim, the regional da’i for the Riau Islands, alongside Juperta Panji Utama, Deputy Director I of the Social, Humanitarian, and Da’wah Programs at Dompet Dhuafa, expressed the institution’s commitment to supporting new converts in developing into resilient individuals in terms of faith and social independence.

“Dompet Dhuafa continues to strive to make tangible contributions in the fields of social welfare, humanitarian aid, and da’wah. Through the PEMULIA DD program, we aim to provide solutions that not only offer short-term benefits but also promote long-term empowerment, particularly for new converts,” said Panji.

In line with this, Muhammad Labib, Mualaf Empowerment Program Dompet Dhuafa, said that this program is a concrete manifestation of Dompet Dhuafa’s concern for mualaf (converts to Islam) to receive ongoing guidance in their faith and Islamic values. The program aims to ensure that they are not only enthusiastic about converting to Islam at the beginning, but also able to apply Islamic values in their daily lives.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Governor of the Riau Islands Province, Nyanyang Haris Pratamura, S.E., M.Si., expressed appreciation and full support from the local government for the PEMULIA DD program. In his remarks, he emphasized the importance of collaboration between philanthropic institutions and the government in building an inclusive and empowered society.

“May this program serve as a guiding light for new converts in the Riau Islands, guiding them toward a better and more meaningful life,” he said.

The symbolic inauguration was marked by the unveiling of the PEMULIA DD Program signboard for the Riau Islands region, jointly performed by the Vice Governor, Deputy Director I of Dompet Dhuafa, representatives from Cordofa, and the leadership of Dompet Dhuafa Riau Islands. This event symbolizes the synergy between Dompet Dhuafa, local government, and community leaders in supporting the success of the program.

As a form of support, award plaques were presented to Dompet Dhuafa by various parties, including the Deputy Governor of the Riau Islands, Deputy Chairman II of the Riau Islands Provincial DPRD, Dr. Tengku Afrizal Dahlan, M.M., and the Mayor of Batam, H. Amsakar Achmad, S.Sos., M.Si. Also present at the event were other important figures such as the District Head of Nongsa, representatives from the Nongsa Police Station, the Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) of Batam City, and the Chairman of the Malay Customary Council, Datuk Agus Wahab.

Dompet Dhuafa Riau Islands Branch actively contributed to the success of this program. In addition to the PEMULIA DD program, this branch also initiated various community empowerment activities such as assistance programs for orphans and the underprivileged, nutrition monitoring for children in island areas, and mosque renovation programs.

Dompet Dhuafa hopes that the PEMULIA DD program will serve as a beacon of goodness, not only nurturing but also empowering new converts to become independent, productive individuals who actively contribute to society and their religion. (Dompet Dhuafa)
