JAKARTA –- The philanthropic organization Dompet Dhuafa is inviting the Indonesian public to honor orphaned children through its flagship programs. During a press conference titled “Honor 10,000 Orphaned Children” held at the Philanthropy Building on Monday, July 14, 2025, Dompet Dhuafa aims to encourage everyone to increase public awareness and participation in supporting the future of orphaned children in Indonesia.
The press conference was attended by the Chairman of the Board of Dompet Dhuafa Republika Ahmad Juwaini, Director of Mobilization at Dompet Dhuafa Etika Setiawanti, Child Psychologist Kak Seto Mulyadi, GM Gramedia Regional D Elizabeth Driemirda, and GM of ZIS Collection at Dompet Dhuafa Ahmad Faqih.
Ahmad Juwaini highlighted the vulnerability of orphaned children in Indonesia. He emphasized that Indonesia must give special attention to orphaned children. Data from the Ministry of Social Affairs in 2022 indicates that there are approximately four million orphaned children who require serious attention.

Dompet Dhuafa is committed to helping orphans through various programs since the organization was established. There are educational programs, gifts for orphans across the country, Yatim Preneur, and Edutrip. In the future, these programs must be strengthened to become sustainable and continuous programs.
“We all must pay attention to orphaned children. Without adequate support, they will face difficulties in their lives. Helping orphaned children is highly appreciated by Dompet Dhuafa’s donors. The donors are very happy, and this is good because Dompet Dhuafa takes the trust of its donors very seriously,” emphasized Ahmad Juwaini.
Meanwhile, Child Psychologist Seto Mulyadi stressed the importance of everyone’s role in protecting and supporting orphaned children. “Orphaned children need love, appreciation, and a conducive environment to thrive. All children are intelligent; with the right support, they can achieve their full potential. Negative stigmas must be eliminated, and they must be encouraged to build self-confidence,” said Kak Seto, as he is affectionately known.
Director of Mobility at the Dompet Dhuafa Republika Foundation, Etika Setiawanti, explained that Dompet Dhuafa aims to reach 10,000 orphans and underprivileged children throughout Indonesia. She invited the public to actively participate in the “Honor Orphans” campaign. According to her, there are many ways the public can contribute to helping orphaned children.
“This can be done through donations, zakat, infak, or collaboration with Dompet Dhuafa. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of orphaned children has significantly increased, and the community’s support is urgently needed to assist them,” explained Etika.
Collaboration with various parties is a key focus. Dompet Dhuafa is also partnering with Gramedia for this initiative. The “Honor the Orphaned Children” campaign will run from late June to September 2025, coinciding with Dompet Dhuafa’s 32nd anniversary.

GM Gramedia Regional D Elizabeth Driemirda stated Gramedia’s commitment to educating the nation through access to books and reading materials. “We invite Gramedia customers to donate and collaborate with Dompet Dhuafa so that donations reach the right hands. Our target is to raise funds to purchase learning packages for orphans,” said Elizabeth.
Elizabeth revealed that Gramedia customers are encouraged to donate and perform Quranic endowments. By the end of July 2025, 9,500 participants have contributed, ultimately raising funds to purchase learning packages donated through Dompet Dhuafa.
“This collaboration took place during last Ramadan. Gramedia collaborated with Dompet Dhuafa in a program to distribute copies of the Quran, which were donated by Gramedia customers. During the Eid al-Adha holiday, Gramedia once again collaborated with Dompet Dhuafa by inviting customers to donate meat through the cash registers at Gramedia (Region D),” said Ahmad Faqih, GM of ZIS Collection at Dompet Dhuafa.
Two scholarship recipients from Dompet Dhuafa, Arwan and Farizki, shared their inspiring stories. Arwan expressed his gratitude and hoped the program would continue. “We, the orphaned children, are deeply grateful for the support from donors through Dompet Dhuafa. This support is very meaningful in supporting our education and future,” said Arwan.

Meanwhile, Farizki added that determination and enthusiasm are the main keys to achieving success. He is fully aware that as an orphan, he does not have many privileges. However, thanks to the excellence scholarship from Dompet Dhuafa, he has been able to overcome obstacles in pursuing his dreams.
“I am grateful to Dompet Dhuafa, Smart Ekselensia, and the community and donors who have helped us, these orphaned children, to achieve our dreams,” he said.
Dompet Dhuafa hopes that the “Honor the Orphaned Children” campaign will inspire more people to care and contribute to creating a better future for orphaned children in Indonesia. Continuous support from various parties is crucial to ensure this program continues and delivers tangible positive impacts. (***)
