BANDUNG, WEST JAVA — The prevention of the spread of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) in livestock is carried out by all DD Farm crew members throughout Indonesia. Examinations and treatments are carried out under the supervision of the livestock and health services as a preventive measure. One of the DD Farms owned by Dompet Dhuafa is located in Cimenyan District, Bandung Regency. This livestock program empowers poor farmers through sheep procurement and fattening activities. With a barn area of 750 m2 and a capacity of 1,040 sheep, DD Farm Bandung is managed by a barn manager and barn assistants.
The widespread transmission of the PMK virus has become a particular concern for the barn team in implementing preventive measures. Barn disinfection is carried out to sterilize the barn from viruses and bacteria that cause PMK. Additionally, a series of Quality Control (QC) activities are conducted to ensure that sacrificial animals comply with religious guidelines and are free from PMK symptoms.

Quality Control (QC) is carried out to review various aspects, including: animal weight, absence of defects on the animal’s body, sufficient age, and good health without symptoms of disease. QC is not only carried out in the fattening pens but also in the supply pens originating from Cianjur, Bogor, Subang, and Sukabumi.
The validity of animals passing the QC process is reinforced by the issuance of an Animal Health Certificate for Sacrificial Animals (SKKH) from the local Fisheries and Livestock Service. Additionally, these animals will be used for sacrifice during the upcoming Eid al-Adha holiday, which falls on July 10, 2022.

“Ensuring that livestock are healthy, especially ahead of Eid al-Adha, is our priority as the barn crew. This QC process makes it easier for us to identify the health of livestock, starting from weighing their body weight, checking their temperature, and assessing their physical condition,” said Agus Purnama, DD Farm Barn Manager, when met on Thursday (06/30/2022).
