Everyone wants to live comfortably. They want to have a nice home, be able to provide for their family, help others, and live with peace of mind. The desire to have wealth is not wrong. In Islam, seeking abundant sustenance is actually part of worship, as long as it is done in a halal, honest manner, and without forgetting the blessings therein.
However, in today’s fast-paced and competitive world, many people are trapped in the narrow view that more wealth means more happiness. In fact, true wealth in Islam is not just about quantity, but about blessings. Blessed wealth is wealth that not only suffices, but also brings peace, fosters kindness, and benefits others.
Wealth is Not a Goal, But a Trust
In Islam, wealth is not the goal of life, but a trust. Allah SWT entrusts sustenance to each of His servants in varying degrees, as a form of test and trust. For some people, abundant wealth can be a path to goodness, but it can also be a test if it is not managed wisely.
Allah SWT says in Surah Al-Hadid verse 7:
“Believe in Allah and His Messenger, and spend of the wealth which Allah has made you stewards of.”
This verse reminds us that we are not the absolute owners of the wealth we possess. Everything in our hands is only a trust that must be used in a good way. When someone realizes this, they will try to seek sustenance in a way that is pleasing to Allah, not by any means necessary.
Islam teaches a balance between hard work and peace of mind. The Prophet Muhammad SAW said, “There is no food better for a person than that which he has earned himself.” (HR. Bukhari)
This hadith emphasizes that working hard and striving sincerely is the main way to obtain halal wealth.
However, in Islam, the way of seeking sustenance is not only judged by the results, but also by the process. Honesty, trustworthiness, and integrity are the main keys. Sustenance obtained through cheating, manipulation, or oppression of others may seem large in numbers, but it is empty of blessings.
On the contrary, sustenance obtained through sincere work and pure prayers, even if it is small, often brings much greater peace.
People who are honest in their work and efforts are referred to as the companions of the prophets. The Prophet Muhammad SAW said, “Honest and trustworthy traders will be with the prophets, the righteous, and the martyrs.” (HR. Tirmidzi)
This means that seeking wealth is not only an economic activity, but also a highly valuable act of worship if done with the right intention.
Prayer, Effort, and Accompanying Blessings
In Islam, seeking abundant sustenance is never separated from prayer. This is because hard work alone does not guarantee success if Allah has not permitted it. There are many people who are smart and diligent, but their sustenance is stagnant. There are also those who are simple but live a life full of blessings. That is where the secret of prayer and sincerity of the heart lies.
Prayer opens the doors of heaven, while hard work opens the doors of earth. The two must go hand in hand. When someone works diligently, honestly, and remembers Allah in every step, then Allah will multiply their sustenance from unexpected directions.
Allah SWT says in Surah Ath-Thalaq verses 2–3:
“Whoever fears Allah, He will provide a way out for him and provide him with sustenance from unexpected directions.”
Abundant sustenance is not only the result of hard work, but also of maintaining piety. People who live honestly, patiently, and do not neglect their worship will always find their path easy, even in small matters.
The Secret of Blessings: Not Only Saving, But Also Giving
Many people work hard day and night to increase their wealth, but forget that blessings actually come from sharing. Islam teaches the concept of balance between seeking and giving. Zakat, infaq, and alms are not only obligations, but also the key to opening up sustenance.
The Prophet Muhammad SAW said, “Wealth will not decrease because of almsgiving.” (HR. Muslim)
This statement is not merely a spiritual promise, but a real law of nature. Wealth that is shared with sincere intentions opens up new and unexpected opportunities and good fortune.
Sharing brings wealth to life. It circulates, grows benefits, and calms the heart. For those who give, almsgiving becomes a protection from hardship and misfortune. For those who receive, it becomes a source of hope and new life. Therefore, the best way to increase wealth is by not making it entirely your own.
Dompet Dhuafa serves as a bridge between good intentions and great benefits. Through zakat and alms, you can channel the blessings of wealth into education, health, and economic empowerment of the community. That way, every blessing you earn is not only beneficial to yourself, but also becomes a light for many lives.
Islam does not oppose wealth. In fact, Islam encourages its followers to be financially strong so that they can provide more benefits. However, true wealth is not when a person has everything, but when he is able to be grateful and use it in the right way.
If you want abundant and blessed wealth, the way to achieve it is not by chasing the world aimlessly, but by setting your intentions, working honestly, praying sincerely, and sharing selflessly. Abundant wealth may make life easier, but blessed wealth makes life more meaningful. Work with the right intentions, manage your wealth with a pure heart, and share it sincerely. Because in the end, the most valuable wealth is not what is stored away, but what is spent in the way of Allah.
