What Do the Palestinian People Need Most Right Now, and How Can We Help?

When news from Palestine emerges, the world is reminded of weary faces, children crying from hunger, and families who have lost their homes. But behind the scenes and statistics, they are human beings just like us. They have dreams, families, and hopes for a peaceful life. Unfortunately, that life has now turned into a daily struggle for survival.

The Palestinian people are currently facing not only conflict, but also a humanitarian crisis that threatens their lives. Amidst limited logistical access and destroyed infrastructure, even the most basic needs are difficult to meet.

Food and Nutrition Becoming Increasingly Scarce

The most urgent need for the Palestinian people is food. Reports from international humanitarian agencies show that millions of Gazans are now living in starvation. Many families only eat once a day, and some even have to share a piece of bread in order to survive.

Children are the most vulnerable group. They suffer from severe malnutrition and their bodies weaken due to insufficient nutrition. Mothers go hungry so that their children can eat first. This situation is considered one of the world’s greatest food crises today.

Every food aid that reaches them is a new lease on life. For a starving child, a loaf of bread is not just food, but hope for tomorrow.

Clean Water Becoming Increasingly Difficult to Find

Clean water is as essential as the air we breathe. However, for the people of Gaza, clean water has become a luxury. More than two-thirds of the water and sanitation infrastructure has been destroyed.

Without clean water, they cannot cook, bathe, or even drink safely. Many families are forced to use water that is unfit for consumption, which ultimately causes infectious diseases. In refugee camps, this situation is exacerbated because many people live in crowded conditions without adequate sanitation facilities.

Clean water is life. Every drop left in Gaza is a symbol of humanity’s struggle to survive amid the destruction.

Health Services Nearly Paralyzed

Hospitals in Gaza are now a shadow of their former selves. Many health facilities are no longer operating due to a lack of fuel, medicine, and medical equipment. Doctors and nurses struggle to treat patients with whatever equipment they have, often by candlelight.

Seriously injured patients are not receiving adequate treatment. Mothers are giving birth without proper medical assistance. Premature babies are losing their chance at life because incubators are not working. This is not only a health crisis, but also a humanitarian crisis.

In addition, the need for mental health support is also growing. Children and families who have lost everything are living with deep trauma. They need space to recover and feel safe again.

Lost Homes and Shelter

Hundreds of thousands of homes in Gaza have been destroyed. Many families now live in emergency tents, schools, or mosques that have been turned into shelters. In such places, they have no privacy, comfort, or protection from extreme weather.

In winter, temperatures can drop drastically, and without blankets or warm clothes, children easily fall ill. For them, a sturdy tent, thick clothes, or a thick blanket are luxuries that mean a lot.

A decent place to live is not just about walls and a roof. It is a symbol of security and human dignity. When a home is lost, it is not just a building that is lost, but also a sense of belonging.

Energy and Communication for Survival

Modern life cannot be separated from energy and communication, and in Gaza, both are nearly paralyzed. The electricity crisis has caused hospitals to cease operations, lights to go out at night, and families to live in darkness. Without electricity, water pumps do not work, communication devices are disconnected, and aid is difficult to distribute.

Energy is not just a technical necessity, but a necessity of life. Every remaining source of energy is a tool for sustaining the lives of thousands of people.

More Than Just Physical Needs

Everything that the Palestinian people need boils down to one thing: they want to live like other human beings. They want to eat without fear of bombs falling. They want to drink clean water without worrying about disease. They want to sleep without hearing explosions at night. They are not asking for luxury. They just want a simple life: safe, healthy, and dignified. And for that, the world has a moral responsibility not to remain silent.

In Islam, Allah says in Surah Al-Ma’idah verse 32, “Whoever saves the life of one person, it is as if he has saved the lives of all mankind.” This verse is a call to anyone who still has a heart to care. Because saving one life means saving all of humanity.

The Palestinian people are struggling to survive, and they should not have to fight alone. The world needs more helping hands, more caring hearts, and more small but meaningful steps.

Every meal we donate, every drop of water we help deliver, and every rupiah we set aside is a tangible form of empathy and solidarity.
