JAKARTA –— The atmosphere on Sunday (November 2, 2025) morning at the Cilincing RPTRA (Integrated Child-Friendly Public Space) in North Jakarta was lively. Nineteen orphans and underprivileged children gathered on the second floor of the RPTRA building to participate in a literacy activity titled “Stories of Love in Today’s Literacy,” initiated by Dompet Dhuafa Volunteer (DDV) Jabodetabek in collaboration with Rumah Alaika, a local learning community.
In a warm atmosphere, the participants were divided into six small groups. They listened enthusiastically as the volunteers told stories about the history of Betawi, the legendary tale of Si Pitung, and various folk tales typical of Jakarta. Not only did the children listen, they were also invited to share their opinions and recount their experiences as residents of Jakarta.
The excitement continued as the participants taught the Betawi traditional dance Sirih Kuning to the volunteers, before concluding the activity by painting on kite paper, expressing their imagination through colors and images.

According to Novi, Coordinator of DDV Jabodetabek, this activity aims to introduce the history and culture of Jakarta to children in a fun way.
“Through storytelling, we want to spark their curiosity. Hopefully, children will grow up with a passion for learning through books and appreciate the struggles of heroes and the history of their own city,” she said.
One of the participants, Aira (13), expressed her joy in joining the activity.
“It’s so much fun, Sis. We can play together, learn together, and draw together with the DDV siblings. Earlier, we also taught the siblings to dance Sirih Kuning,” Aira said enthusiastically.

In addition to children, this activity also provides a space for DDV Jabodetabek volunteers to spread kindness amid their busy schedules. “Kisah-Kasih Literasi Masa Kini” itself is part of the Dompet Dhuafa Volunteer National Literacy Movement, which is held simultaneously in various regions in Indonesia.
Through this simple yet meaningful initiative, DDV Jabodetabek aims to reignite the spirit of cultural appreciation and literacy among children, particularly in the urban areas of North Jakarta. (Dompet Dhuafa)
