Dompet Dhuafa Restores Transportation for Central Tapanuli Residents Through Free Motorcycle Service

TAPANULI TENGAH, NORTH SUMATRA ——— In response to the aftermath of the flash floods in Sumatra, Dompet Dhuafa provided free motorcycle repair services in Neighborhood 2 Sigotom, Tukka Village, on Friday (01/03/2026). This vocational program aims to restore residents’ means of transportation so that their economic activities can return to normal.

During the initiative, Dompet Dhuafa’s Independence Institute successfully repaired 16 motorcycles. Approximately 50% of them were completely non-functional due to the flood damage. Despite the complexity of the repairs, the team ensured all vehicles on the waiting list were restored to proper working order. Only one unit had its repair postponed to the following day due to missing vehicle keys.

Activity coordinator, M. Iqbal Adriansyah, said that motorcycles are a vital means of transportation for residents of Tukka District, Central Tapanuli Regency, to work and meet their family needs. However, the major flooding that hit the area some time ago caused many residents’ vehicles to be severely damaged due to being submerged in water and buried in mud.

He also explained that each unit requires approximately 45 to 60 minutes of service time.

“Given that many motorcycles were completely destroyed, we conducted a thorough inspection. We ensured that each motorcycle was roadworthy and safe to use again,” he said.

This service involved a team of expert mechanics, namely Hasimsyah, Andre Julpana, and Mawan. They performed oil changes, chain adjustments, and brake pad replacements according to the level of damage to each vehicle.

One of the affected residents, Indra, could not hide his gratitude. “Our motorcycles were buried in mud and swept away by the water for up to ten meters. During the flood, we only focused on saving ourselves. Alhamdulillah, this assistance is very useful. We can change the oil, adjust the chain, and repair the brakes for free,” he said.

Through this service, Dompet Dhuafa hopes to alleviate the needs of the community after the disaster and get the economy back on track. Let’s help our brothers and sisters in Sumatra to get back on their feet. Channel your concern through: digital.dompetdhuafa.org/donasi/bangkitsumatera. (Dompet Dhuafa)
