Rapid Action to Help Flood Survivors in West Halmahera, Dompet Dhuafa Establishes Public Kitchens & Conducts Clean-up Operations

NORTH MALUKU —-— Dompet Dhuafa, through its Disaster Management Center (DMC), responded to flash floods in West Halmahera by setting up public kitchens and conducting cleanup efforts on Sunday (01/11/2026). It is known that the floods occurred due to heavy rains and extreme weather conditions over the previous three days. As a result, road access was cut off, houses were damaged and submerged in water, and thousands of residents were forced to evacuate.

Data from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported that as of January 8, 2026, the floods had claimed two lives, displaced 1,500 people, and affected 3,444 people. Given the serious impact, the local government extended the state of emergency for hydrometeorological disasters until January 27, 2026.

In such conditions, ready-to-eat meals become an urgent necessity. The public kitchen set up by DMC Dompet Dhuafa provides significant material support. However, the public kitchen can only serve 300 beneficiaries. Meanwhile, there are still many basic needs that must be met, such as clean water, hygiene kits, cleaning equipment, shelter, basic food supplies, and public kitchen logistics.

In addition, the DMC Dompet Dhuafa volunteer team also continues to clean up debris together with the Indonesian National Armed Forces, the Fire Department, and the local government.

“We carried out road cleaning activities and cleaning activities at three houses in Tongute Ternate Village. We worked together to help transport 12 fishing boats that were stranded in residential areas,” said Afandi Hi Kader, a volunteer with the DMC Dompet Dhuafa Response Team.

For your information, DMC Dompet Dhuafa has established a Response Post in Tongute Ternate Village RT 04/02, Ibu District, West Halmahera Regency, North Maluku. Through this service, Dompet Dhuafa hopes to alleviate the needs of the community after the disaster and get the economy back on track. Let’s help our brothers and sisters in Maluku to get back on their feet. (Dompet Dhuafa)
