Together with PT Mayra Indonesia, Dompet Dhuafa Supports the Businesses of Women with Disabilities

WEST JAVA —-— The disabled community is often looked down upon by society. Their physical imperfections result in limited access to resources, public facilities, and even the fulfillment of their rights as citizens. Many people with disabilities give up on their circumstances and ask for sympathy from the community.

However, despite this stigma, there are many people with disabilities who have a strong work ethic, are able to overcome their physical limitations, and do not see their imperfections as justification for asking for pity from others.

Dompet Dhuafa believes that people who struggle amid limitations need to be appreciated by all parties. This includes individuals, communities, government entities, business entities, and other elements of society, in order to help them access resources that support their daily needs. Therefore, for five days from Monday to Friday (April 25-30, 2022), Dompet Dhuafa collaborated with PT Mayra Indonesia to create an initiative to care for the poor, especially women with disabilities, through the “Capital Assistance for Resilient Women with Disabilities” program.

The Program Coordinator for the Capital Assistance for Resilient Women with Disabilities program, Vini Hindayani, stated that this collaborative act of kindness was carried out as a form of appreciation and concern for people with disabilities. It is hoped that this will motivate people with disabilities to know that they are not fighting alone. Many parties remain and will continue to care for people like them based on humanitarian principles.

“In this joint program with PT Mayra Indonesia, we are targeting five strong women with disabilities as beneficiaries. Alhamdulillah, they said they were very happy to receive attention and assistance to develop their businesses,” explained Vini.

One of the beneficiaries, Nurhayati (60), lives in Kaumpandak, Karadenan Village, Cibinong District, Bogor Regency. She is a housewife who has had polio since childhood, but currently has two children who are still growing and in school. Nur currently has a sewing business in her place of residence. According to her, she began to acquire sewing skills after actively participating in training courses held by the local government or private organizations.

“I started focusing on sewing a few years ago when my husband lost his job. I had to join in the search for income to support my children and household,” she said. (Dompet Dhuafa / Muthohar)
