Dompet Dhuafa and MUI-BKSAP DPR RI Hold Workshop, Follow Up on 2 Declarations from the Asia Pacific Conference for Palestine

JAKARTA —-— Dompet Dhuafa, together with the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), the Indonesian House of Representatives’ Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP), and a number of philanthropic institutions, followed up on the recommendations of the Global Coalition for Al Quds and Palestine (GCAP) meeting. This follow-up was accompanied by a workshop held by the Asia Pacific Coalition for Al Quds and Palestine.

The discussion forum, which took place at the Dompet Dhuafa Philanthropy Building Cultural Center in South Jakarta on Wednesday (04/02/2026), discussed ten resolutions from the Asia Pacific Conference for Palestine. Of the ten resolutions, two declarations were also important points for discussion at this meeting.

“The first is related to the appointment of Indonesia as the host. The second is the establishment of what was then called the Gaza Development Fund (GDF). So, those are the two topics discussed at today’s meeting. Why are these two topics important? Because the mandate from our friends in Asia Pacific to Indonesia must be followed up,” said Syamsul Ardiansyah, Senior Officer of Strategic Alliance Dompet Dhuafa.

These two resolutions, said Syamsul, need to be realized together in concrete terms so that they can be implemented more operationally. Further discussion, according to him, is important considering that the conference is still discussing the big idea of a funding mechanism for the post-war reconstruction of Palestine.

“Now, in the current situation, this concept must be translated into a more operational framework, how it works, how it will be implemented, and so on, in order to ensure that the two resolutions from the conference can be implemented,” he added.

The workshop, which was attended by dozens of people from various institutions, produced three conclusions. Syamsul said that the first conclusion was the governance concept of this coalition.

“So, we will form a headquarters which will include an Advisory Board, a Steering Board, and an Executive Director who will be the Head of the Secretariat for the implementation of this coalition in general,” he explained.

The second conclusion, continued Syamsul, was a mutual agreement regarding the concept of the GDF, which has been renamed the Asia Pacific Development Fund for Palestine.

“Secondly, we also agreed on the concept of the GDF. At this time, we are rebranding it as the Asia Pacific Development Fund for Palestine. That is what we will propose,” he explained.

Furthermore, Syamsul said that the third conclusion was to discuss strategic programs that will be implemented over the next three years.

“We will bring these three resolutions to the Global Coalition for Al Quds and Palestine meeting next week,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of MUI’s Foreign Relations and International Cooperation Division, Prof. Sudarnoto Abdul Hakim, believes that this meeting with various philanthropic institutions is an important moment for the Asia Pacific Coalition for Palestine as part of the civil society movement.

Furthermore, he emphasized that Indonesia’s commitment to Palestine must not waver or stop. According to him, this movement must not only be carried out through political, legal, and diplomatic channels, but must also involve humanitarian efforts.

“This is the humanitarian channel that we are developing. Hopefully, this will truly contribute to Indonesia’s efforts as a large Muslim country that will become a global player to be reckoned with,” he explained.

From various channels, he hopes that the coalition’s main goal of fighting for Palestinian independence can be realized.

“So that our main goal of defending Palestine can be realized. So that diplomacy works, politics works, international law works, and this (humanitarianism) also works,” he concluded.

Previously, at the Asia Pacific Conference held on Saturday (08/11/2025) in the Nusantara Hall, DPR RI Building, Jakarta, Dompet Dhuafa initiated the GDF, a strategic funding mechanism designed to support the comprehensive and sustainable recovery and reconstruction of Gaza. This fund focuses on developing productive sectors, strengthening community economic capacity, and building social and economic infrastructure.

“GDF is a pattern of collecting funds from the community consisting of an Endowment Fund and a Non-Endowment Fund. We will invest the endowment fund and use the proceeds to build beneficial projects in Gaza. The Non-Endowment Fund can be used for immediate needs,” said Ahmad Juwaini, Chairman of the Dompet Dhuafa Foundation, when presenting GDF at the Asia Pacific Conference.

For information, the Endowment Fund comes from waqf (endowment) funds that are managed productively to generate long-term and sustainable benefits, with a minimum investment return target of 6% per year. The proceeds from the management of this waqf become a fixed source of financing for Gaza’s development programs. There is one holding account established by the legal entity of the forum, and/or each institution uses its own account, but the management follows the GDF system.

Meanwhile, non-endowment funds come from ZIS (zakat, infaq, and sadaqah), CSR, and other public donations, which are used directly for operational financing, infrastructure development, and short- and medium-term recovery needs.

The GDF has a vision to become an instrument that manages sustainable and independent financial resources to support the reconstruction of infrastructure, social services, and the strengthening of Gaza’s local economy, as well as ensuring dignity and the right to self-determination for the Palestinian people.
