Gramedia Customers’ Kindness Gives Fatih a New Lease of Life as He Prepares for School

TANGERANG —— Beaming smiles lit up the children’s faces as they received their ‘Learning Packages’ containing new school supplies. A blue school bag now rests on the shoulder of Adam Fatih (13). The contents of the bag he received are not merely books and stationery, but also hold the hope that he will continue to attend school and pursue his dreams.

That hope is made possible thanks to the generosity of customers at Gramedia AEON BSD who took part in the Happy Family Coloring Programme. This creative initiative, launched by Gramedia in collaboration with Dompet Dhuafa, distributes Learning Packs to children in need, enabling them to start the new school year with greater confidence and a renewed enthusiasm for learning.

It wasn’t just a school bag; Fatih also received exercise books, pencils, ballpoint pens, erasers and even socks. He couldn’t stop smiling as he showed off the contents of the Learning Pack, one by one, from a large carry-all bag on Tuesday (14 July 2026) at Gramedia AEON BSD.

He then picked up a sketchbook – the item that excited him the most that day. He received this sketchbook thanks to his courage in stepping forward during a quiz organised by Gramedia.

“My hobby is drawing, and today I got a sketchbook because I took part in the quiz earlier,” he said.

Up until now, the Year 5 primary school pupil admitted that he had most often drawn his imaginative creations on the back pages of his school exercise books. Not because he preferred it, but because he did not yet have his own sketchbook.

In addition, a new pair of socks also made Fatih happy. This is because the socks he usually wore to school, he said, were already torn and starting to wear out.

“Socks for school. My socks at home are also worn out, all torn up, so I’m happy to get new ones,” he added.

The new bag will also serve a dual purpose. As well as using it for school, Fatih plans to use it for the English tuition his mum has enrolled him in. However, behind his cheerful face, Fatih also has a noble heart. As well as receiving the Learning Pack, he also received a financial grant. Without hesitation, Fatih already knew exactly who the envelope was for.

“I’ve got an envelope – alhamdulillah, it’s for food. You see, at home we often don’t have any rice or cooking oil. I’m going to give this to Mum,” said Fatih

For some families, buying school supplies means having to choose between other necessities. However, this Learning Pack helps parents ease the financial burden ahead of the new school year.

“Thank you to the big brother who gave me this. Thank you to the visitors at Gramedia and Dompet Dhuafa. At the start of the new school year, I’ll have nice new things, because my old ones are all worn out. Thank you, big brother!” concluded Fatih.

A total of 30 orphans received study packs. A variety of activities added to the festivities, such as quizzes and interactive games, the distribution of study packs, followed by the presentation of financial assistance to the orphans.

Gabriel Laia, Store Manager at Gramedia Aeon BSD, hopes that these Learning Packs will serve as an incentive for the children to study even more diligently.

“On behalf of the Management of Gramedia Aeon BSD, we would like to express our sincere thanks to the customers who shop at Gramedia Aeon BSD, as well as to Dompet Dhuafa, who have been our partner. We work together with customers who shop at Gramedia to set aside a portion of their earnings, which we then channelled through Dompet Dhuafa, and I saw earlier that the children who received these learning packs were delighted. Hopefully, these children will be even more enthusiastic about their studies in the future,” said Gabriel Laia.

In line with this spirit, Yudha Andilla, Retail Fundraising Manager at Dompet Dhuafa, expressed his appreciation to Gramedia customers who have donated Learning Packages for children about to start the new academic year. This will instil a renewed enthusiasm in the children to continue learning and realise their aspirations.

“Today we are sharing kindness with Gramedia by distributing Learning Packages; we certainly hope this will inspire all customers who wish to collaborate and share with Gramedia and Dompet Dhuafa. God willing, we will deliver this trust to our younger brothers and sisters who truly need it, and it is vital that we open up broad access to this act of kindness,” said Yudha.

Thank you to all Gramedia customers! Friends, let’s be part of sharing happiness and become a ‘bestie’ to orphaned children via yatim.dompetdhuafa.org. (Dompet Dhuafa)
