SUKABUMI, WEST JAVA —- Dompet Dhuafa, through the Waqf Investment Development Agency (LPIW), held a harvest tour entitled “Petik Cerita, Rangkai Manfaat” (Pick Stories, Gather Benefits) in the productive waqf area of the Tahfidz Green Lido Islamic boarding school in Sukabumi on Thursday (24/4/2025). The event involved donors, students, and managers as a form of transparency and accountability for the trust placed in Dompet Dhuafa through the wakaf funds it manages.
During the event, participants were invited to directly participate in harvesting premium crops such as Kenyan beans, tomatoes, and onion leaves. They also took part in vegetable bouquet arrangement sessions and engaged in casual discussions about cultivation processes and the utilization of harvested produce.

“This is part of our efforts to demonstrate that Dompet Dhuafa’s productive waqf management truly provides tangible benefits. Here, there is a mosque, productive agricultural land, and, of course, the students who are the direct beneficiaries,” said Ali Bastoni, General Manager of Dompet Dhuafa’s Waqf Investment Development Institution.
This activity is necessary as a contribution to creating sources of income and revenue for the Islamic boarding school. By involving donors in the harvesting process, donors can directly experience the tangible benefits of the endowment program being implemented.
The agricultural land of the Tahfidz Green Lido Islamic Boarding School has entered its fourth harvest season for Kenyan beans, with significant results. Cultivation is carried out conventionally and utilizes local wisdom, with a harvest period ranging from 40 to 50 days.

For Purwanti, one of the participants in the harvest tour, the day’s activities were incredibly enjoyable and full of new experiences. This was her first time participating directly. The most memorable part was when she had the opportunity to pick tomatoes directly from the garden; she also picked green beans, even though she had never seen the plant before.
“I feel that Dompet Dhuafa has truly fulfilled its mandate by distributing the funds responsibly, and there is tangible evidence of the benefits for the community.”

In addition to providing hands-on experience, this activity also serves as an educational opportunity for donors to understand the cycle of productive waqf farming management. Some of the harvests, such as melons and tomatoes, have been marketed to local suppliers and prepared for export, including to Singapore through Karya Masyarakat Mandiri, Dompet Dhuafa.
Alhamdulillah, to date, the Kenya bean cultivation program has entered its second planting season, with hopes that future harvests will yield up to 1.2 tons. Kenya bean cultivation is one of the main focuses, starting from land preparation stages such as bed making and maintenance, basal fertilization, to covering with plastic. After seed planting, additional fertilization is recommended on the 10th day to support plant growth.

Green beans themselves have the potential to be harvested up to 15 times in 90 days of planting, with the best quality seen in pods that are 11–16 cm long and straight and not wavy. In addition to green beans, the pesantren also cultivates melons and tomatoes using hydroponics. Tomatoes are expected to be ready for harvest in the next 20 days after a planting period of around 40–45 days. For other vegetables like Chinese cabbage and scallions, intercropping is used to optimize land use. These can be harvested in approximately 25 days.
This initiative is expected to provide additional income for farmers, both in the form of regular income and passive income. The harvest results, such as Chinese cabbage, also show good quality and open opportunities for expanding land area and diversifying crops in the future.

Participants, including social activists, Assyifa Zahra, welcomed the event with enthusiasm. “Honestly, I’m really happy because it means the funds from our donors have been put to good use, as there are already tangible results here. Earlier, we also discussed how to manage the bean crops,” said Assyifa.
Through this program, Dompet Dhuafa hopes that the productive endowment area at Pesantren Tahfidz Green Lido will continue to grow and provide sustainable benefits for the students, endowers, and surrounding community. Such activities also demonstrate that endowment is not merely about charitable giving but also a real solution for empowerment and economic resilience in Indonesia.
With your support, let’s realize more extensive productive endowment empowerment and help the students of the Tahfidz Green Lido Islamic Boarding School prepare for their education to the fullest at https://digital.dompetdhuafa.org/wakaf/asramaetahfidz
