JAKARTA -— In order to bring happiness to female online motorcycle taxi drivers (Ojol), Dompet Dhuafa and Gerak Bareng held a forum titled “Kuatkan Perempuan Tangguh” (Empower Strong Women) to engage in dialogue while distributing food packages at the Gerak Bareng Secretariat in Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta, on Monday (05/26/2025).

With the support of Azalea—a local beauty product—30 female Ojol drivers participated in a discussion with Dompet Dhuafa representative Diana Rahma; Azalea Brand Marketing Glenn Gouwardi; and Gerak Bareng mentor Ahmad Zaki, regarding the welfare of Ojol drivers in recent times.

The booming online transportation industry has increased competition among Ojol drivers. This, of course, affects each driver’s income, explained Ahmad Zaki. According to data from the Institute of Demographic and Poverty (IDEAS), the average daily income of Ojol drivers between 2022 and 2023 was Rp174,805, with an average of 10 orders per day over an 11-hour workday.

“Yes, that’s right, sir! This year, there are already five million Ojol drivers in Indonesia. It’s true that this has caused our income to decline because there is more competition. Many layoffs in factories have caused people to switch to becoming Ojol drivers,” said one of the Ojol drivers who attended the forum.

Zaki also expressed his appreciation to the beneficiaries present. According to him, today’s economic pressures mean that breadwinners are no longer just the responsibility of male workers, but also women. This agenda is a tribute to strong women who are the backbone of their families.

“We (along with Ojol drivers) often gather for various activities. There are indeed many female Ojol drivers today who are struggling to make a living, some even while carrying their children while taking orders. Because, well, their children are still young and can’t be left alone,” explained Zaki.

This fact motivated Azalea to continue supporting these strong women on their journey. Glenn said that this effort took the form of distributing basic food supplies such as rice, oil, flour, instant noodles, and so on. Not only that, Azalea also distributed packages of its products, ranging from Smooth Foot, Zaitun Oil, Hair Vitamin to Hijab Shampoo.

The assistance is a donation from a portion of the profits from the sale of Azalea’s product packages during last Ramadan. Glenn hopes that the food packages and Azalea products can bring benefits to the female Ojol drivers.

“We hope that today’s distribution of assistance can serve as a form of support for these resilient women, some of whom may be the backbone of their families. May it be of benefit,” said Glenn.

One of the beneficiaries, Lia Dahlia, expressed her gratitude that day. She admitted that she felt helped by the basic food assistance and Azalea products. In addition to the basic food assistance, which certainly helped her meet her daily needs, she also said she was happy to receive the Azalea products.

“Alhamdulillah, thank you Dompet Dhuafa and Azalea for the basic food package. I am deeply moved. Of course, I am also happy to receive this Azalea product package. My daily life is mostly spent on the road, and I rarely have time to take care of my skin. I don’t have time to think about that because I have to earn money and take care of my family,” said Lia.
