The Million Scholarships Movement Officially Launched, a Million Opportunities for Indonesia’s Future

JAKARTA — As part of efforts to develop outstanding talent through inclusive and sustainable scholarship programs, the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture (Kemenko PMK) of the Republic of Indonesia, together with the Indonesian Scholarship Network Association (Forum Beasiswa Indonesia), officially launched the One Million Scholarships for Indonesia Movement.

This national movement symbolizes a shared commitment to building a solid, inclusive, and competitive scholarship ecosystem. The initiative aims to provide one million scholarship opportunities for the Indonesian people, while expanding access to education for those who are less fortunate, have potential, and excel, both in academic and non-academic fields.

The launch of the “One Million Scholarships for Indonesia” movement was marked by an official video launch ceremony attended by various stakeholders, including government agencies, the business sector, educational foundations, community organizations, and Indonesian diaspora networks.

The Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, Pratikno, emphasized the importance of collaboration between various parties in realizing more equitable access to education for all children of the nation.

He made this statement during the launch of the “One Million Scholarships for Indonesia” initiative, which was initiated by the Indonesian Scholarship Network Association in collaboration with the government, at the Heritage Room of the Ministry of National Development Planning, Jakarta, on Thursday, July 24, 2025.

According to Pratikno, this initiative is not merely a program but a national effort to prepare a future generation of Indonesians who are qualified and highly competitive.

“This is not just a program. This is a national movement. A movement of one million scholarships for Indonesia, where the government works together with the community to ensure that every child of the nation has the same opportunity to get an education,” he said.

He also emphasized that although the government already has various education programs such as Sekolah Rakyat (People’s Schools), Sekolah Unggul Garuda (Garuda Excellence Schools), and schools for the gifted and talented, this is not enough without support from all parties.

“It’s not enough. We need collaboration from various institutions, from the government, private sector, social organizations, and others. We must work together,” said Pratikno.

He also highlighted the importance of equitable quality in education across Indonesia. According to him, there is still a significant gap between regions, even in Jakarta itself.

The Chairperson of the Indonesian Scholarship Network Association, Rina Fatimah, emphasized that this movement carries a deeper meaning than just numbers.

“One million scholarships are not just numbers. They represent hope, courage, and a collective commitment to Indonesia’s future,” she said.

In line with this, Tantowi Yahya, Honorary Council Member of the Indonesian Scholarship Network Association, conveyed the importance of this movement to ensure that every child in Indonesia has access to proper education.

“The One Million Scholarships Movement is the nation’s effort to ensure that every child in Indonesia, without exception, has access to a decent future through education.

Amid global challenges and the transformation of the times, we believe the true strength of a nation lies in educated individuals born from collaboration, justice, and the spirit of mutual cooperation,” explained Tantowi.

Tantowi continued, the Indonesian Scholarship Network Association stands as a bridge, uniting the strength of scholarship institutions to expand impact, strengthen solidarity, and ensure no potential of the nation’s children is left behind.

“This is our tangible contribution to Indonesia’s Golden Age in 2045, building outstanding human resources, starting with one scholarship, one hope, one change,” he emphasized. (Dompet Dhuafa)
