NORTH SUMATRA — The Sewing Hope for the Poor program initiated by Dompet Dhuafa Waspada has been relaunched. This time, the third batch was opened at the office of Advocate Faisal O. Nasution, SH & Associates, located at Jalan Ahmad Yani No. 112, Kesawan, Medan, on Saturday (9/20/2025). The office, which has been donated on a long-term basis, serves as the training location for sewing skills aimed at improving the economic conditions of the underprivileged.
The program launch event was attended by the Head of the Medan City Government Social Affairs Office, Khairudin Rangkuti. On this occasion, he expressed his support for the Sewing Hope Program.
“I fully support this activity, especially since it is a form of assistance that can improve the economic status of the community. We in the government have limited budgets, but the presence of this program is very helpful for the Medan City Government, especially the Social Affairs Office, in overcoming the problem of poverty,” said Khairudin.
“We hope that this program will not only continue until the third batch, but also into the next batch,” he added.

“A little information that the location we are currently occupying belongs to my late parents. Alhamdulillah, I am happy that this place can be useful, and hopefully it will provide long-term benefits, especially for the participants who will be able to market their products,” said Sutan.

Sutan said that this location is very strategic. For this reason, he hopes that other empowerment programs can also be implemented here.
“In the future, I hope that other programs can also be implemented here that are beneficial for the empowerment of the poor,” he said.
The Secretary of MES North Sumatra, Kaswinata, also expressed his support for the Sewing Hope Program.
“We are ready to collaborate with Dompet Dhuafa Waspada (DD North Sumatra Branch). We focus on sharia economic empowerment and are ready to provide assistance, especially in terms of capital, to help participants who want to develop their businesses in the future,” said Kaswinata.
On the other hand, the Head of the Dompet Dhuafa Waspada Branch, Sulaiman, also explained the objectives and benefits of the Dhuafa Sewing Hope Program.
“This program aims to equip the poor with sewing skills so that they can be independent, start their own businesses, and improve their families’ welfare. We want them to be productive and able to produce works that have commercial value,” said Sulaiman.
“This is done so that we can see the seriousness of the beneficiaries. Those who graduate will receive assistance in the form of sewing machines and sewing tools to start their businesses,” he added.
