Sewing Hope: Dompet Dhuafa and Bank Indonesia Distribute Sewing Machines for the Needy

NORTH SUMATRA – A total of 40 beneficiaries in Medan Kota, Medan Belawan, Binjai, and Deli Serdang received sewing machine assistance delivered directly by the Dompet Dhuafa Waspada Team on Thursday (19/12/2024). This assistance is a continuation of the Harapan Dhuafa Sewing Program initiated by Bank Indonesia (BI) North Sumatra Province in collaboration with Dompet Dhuafa after completing intensive training for participants.

This program is designed to support the economic empowerment of the poor by providing skills that can be used as a source of income. The delivery of the sewing machines was done with the aim of ensuring the assistance reached the right hands. In addition, this step also shows seriousness in realizing program sustainability and supporting beneficiaries to start a sewing business immediately.

Previously, the beneficiaries had received training in sewing skills ranging from basic to advanced techniques directly guided by trainers provided by Dompet Dhuafa Waspada. This training is held with easy-to-understand methods so that participants can absorb the material well.

Dompet Dhuafa Waspada Branch Manager, Sulaiman, explained that machine delivery was carried out personally to each house to ensure that each machine was received in good condition and ready for use.

“We deliver directly in order to ensure that this machine reaches the right hands and check its condition directly,” said Sulaiman.

He added that this personalized approach allows the team to interact directly with the beneficiaries, ensuring they feel supported and motivated.

Sulaiman also said that this program is a concrete step to help the poor become economically independent. With the skills acquired during the training, the beneficiaries are expected to be able to develop a sustainable sewing business.

“We believe that empowerment like this can have a long-term impact on their lives,” he said.

One of the beneficiaries, Dina, expressed her gratitude to Bank Indonesia and Dompet Dhuafa Waspada for the assistance she received. Dina also hopes that similar programs can continue to be implemented to help other communities.

“This assistance is the beginning for me to start a business and support my family,” she said emotionally.

In addition, the beneficiaries not only received sewing machines, but also complete sewing equipment, business signs, and mentoring support in starting their businesses. This mentoring aims to ensure they can face the initial challenges of building a business.

The program will continue with an intensive mentoring phase to ensure the success of the sewing business started by the beneficiaries. With continuous support, it is hoped that they will be able to become independent entrepreneurs who not only help themselves but also the surrounding environment. (Dompet Dhuafa)
