Dompet Dhuafa and Joint Team Efforts to Extinguish Forest and Land Fire Hotspots in West Kalimantan

WEST KALIMANTAN — Forest and land fires (karhutla) broke out around Supadio International Airport, Kubu Raya Regency, West Kalimantan, on Sunday (01/25/2026). Upon hearing the news, Dompet Dhuafa, through its Disaster Management Center (DMC), together with a joint team, responded swiftly to the incident.

To minimize the spread of the fire, the Dompet Dhuafa DMC team and the joint team were immediately deployed to the location to conduct monitoring and initial handling. This was necessary considering the hot weather conditions, which could potentially worsen the situation in the coming days.

“Currently, we are working with the joint team to extinguish the fire hotspots in Supadio, Kubu Raya, amid the scorching weather. The DMC team here continues to coordinate with various parties such as BPBD, Siaga Kubu Raya, and also TNI-POLRI, to monitor and extinguish existing hotspots,” said Rendi Akbar, DMC Dompet Dhuafa volunteer in Kubu Raya.

As part of its efforts to mitigate forest and land fires, DMC Dompet Dhuafa continues to coordinate and stand by in the field, while anticipating the potential consequences, especially on the health and safety of the surrounding community.

For information, in Kubu Raya Regency, as of Saturday (01/24), there were 24 hotspots spread across Sungai Raya District (6), Sungai Ambawang (2), Sungai Kakap (12), and Kuala Mandor B (4).

It should be noted that the fires burned approximately 4.5 hectares of land in Arang Limbung Village, 14 hectares in Kuala Dua Village, and 2 hectares in Punggur Kecil Village. Some of the burned land is peatland, making the fires difficult to extinguish as they spread beneath the surface of the ground.

On the other hand, the increasing intensity of forest and land fires has had an impact on the decline in air quality in Kubu Raya, which is now in the yellow or unhealthy category. Therefore, the public is advised to wear masks and limit outdoor activities.

In response to this incident, the Kubu Raya Regency government has declared a state of emergency due to haze caused by forest and land fires through Kubu Raya Regent Decree No. 46/BPBD/2026 since January 14, 2026.

Through this response to forest and land fires, Dompet Dhuafa is committed to always encouraging all elements of society to collaborate in protecting the environment. Friends can also collaborate by donating through Indonesia Siap Siaga bencana. (Dompet Dhuafa)
