PEMALANG — Dompet Dhuafa, through its disaster response network, responded quickly to the flash floods that hit Pemalang Regency, Central Java. This response was carried out through the synergy between Dompet Dhuafa’s Central Java Branch and the Disaster Management Center (DMC) by deploying search and rescue teams and mobile medical services to help the affected communities.
The flash flood occurred on Friday (January 23, 2026) afternoon until Saturday (January 24, 2026) early morning due to heavy rainfall. Based on the situation report from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Pemalang Regency, flash floods hit a number of villages in Pulosari District and Moga District, including Gunungsari, Penakir, Jurangmangu, Batursari, Clekatakan, Karangsari, Nyalambeng, and Sima Villages.
The disaster caused severe damage to residents’ homes and village infrastructure, as well as casualties. In Penakir Village, 252 families or 911 people were affected. Seven houses were reported to have been washed away, six houses were severely damaged, and one resident died. Meanwhile, in Sima Village, Moga District, one house was washed away, 12 houses were severely damaged, and about seven residents suffered minor injuries.
The head of the Central Java branch of Dompet Dhuafa, Zaini, said that Dompet Dhuafa Central Java had deployed a search and rescue team to assist in the evacuation process, especially for vulnerable groups who were still isolated.
“Dompet Dhuafa Central Java has deployed a search and rescue team to assist in the evacuation of residents, especially vulnerable groups who are still isolated. As of Saturday night, the evacuation process is still ongoing,” said Zaini in a written report on Saturday (01/24/2026).

In addition to evacuation, Dompet Dhuafa also opened a mobile medical service in Moga District and stationed health workers at one of the evacuation points in Pulosari District. This step was taken due to the limited health facilities and medical personnel in the affected areas, while the local health center focused on providing 24-hour services for high-risk patients, including pregnant women.

Provisional data shows that at least 1,240 people have been displaced and are scattered across several locations, namely the Pulosari Subdistrict Office, the PC NU Building, and SDN 02 Penakir Elementary School. All of these evacuation sites have been equipped with public kitchens and continue to receive logistical assistance.
In Sima Village, five ninth-grade students have lost their school supplies due to damage to their homes, while they will soon face TKA exams. This condition is a concern in the assessment of further needs for survivors affected by flash floods.
The results of the field assessment noted that the current urgent needs include food logistics, family kits, baby supplies, blankets, hygiene kits, additional mattresses, medicines, and body warming equipment due to the cold weather and ongoing rain.

As of Saturday night, light rain was still falling in Pulosari and the surrounding area. The local government and BPBD continue to clean up flood debris, record damage, and coordinate further handling.
Dompet Dhuafa will continue to collaborate with the local government and relevant parties to ensure the basic needs of survivors are met and to support the post-disaster recovery process so it can proceed optimally. (Dompet Dhuafa)
