Ramadan is now upon us. This special month is always eagerly awaited because there are so many benefits to Ramadan that even the companions of the Prophet always prayed for Ramadan to return to their lives.
Ibn Rajab mentions Mu’alla bin Al-Fadhl’s statement, “In the past, six months before Ramadan, the companions prayed that Allah would bring them to Ramadan. Then, for six months after Ramadan, they prayed that Allah would accept their deeds during Ramadan.” (Lathaif Al-Ma’arif, p. 264)
In addition, the prayer they recited was as follows: “O Allah, bring me to Ramadan, and bring Ramadan to me, and accept my deeds in the month of Ramadan.”
To be even more motivated in performing acts of worship in the month of Ramadan, let’s take a look at the benefits of Ramadan that every Muslim should know. Hopefully, with this, your worship in the month of Ramadan will be even better and more blessed.
1. The Benefits of Ramadan: Multiplied Rewards for Good Deeds
In a hadith, the Prophet Muhammad SAW said that Ramadan is a special month that will multiply the rewards of a Muslim. Of course, this is a benefit of Ramadan that cannot be replaced by anything else.
“Whoever draws closer to Allah with a good deed during this month, its value is like that of a person who performs an obligatory deed in other months. And whoever performs an obligatory deed during this month, its value is 70 times that of an obligatory deed performed in other months. The virtue of charity is charity during Ramadan.” (HR. Bukhari Muslim).
If good deeds in the month of Ramadan are greatly multiplied, then why would we waste this opportunity? This is the time for us to increase our good deeds and multiply all the rewards from Allah SWT.
2. The Atmosphere of Worship and Good Deeds from the Environment One of the Benefits of Ramadan
Only in Ramadan do Muslims experience an atmosphere that is very conducive to worship. Especially in Indonesia, Ramadan is a special month for the people. The call to Maghrib prayer is eagerly awaited, Muslims flock to the mosque for tarawih, TV shows, radio, and social media also encourage worship in Ramadan, etc.
This kind of atmosphere should encourage us to do more good deeds. Sometimes people are often lazy or make mistakes because their environment is not supportive. However, with the atmosphere of Ramadan like this, we should be grateful because we can get great support to worship more in the month of Ramadan.
3. Transforming in 30 Days
Allah SWT gives us the opportunity to transform ourselves in 30 days during Ramadan. In fact, if we use these 30 days wisely and sincerely, after 30 days we should be able to become better people. Our consistency and endurance are actually tested during Ramadan.
Worship may feel difficult and challenging if we are not used to it. The first week or two will feel difficult. However, once we get through that period, it will feel easier and more enjoyable to do it in the future. So, be patient and look forward to the next transformation after Ramadan.
Consider Ramadan as a boot camp for Muslims to change faster and become better Muslims. Are you ready to face it?
