Sustaining the Livelihoods of Tourism Workers in West Sumatra, Dompet Dhuafa Revitalizes the Glamping Nature Reserve Area

WEST SUMATRA —-— Dompet Dhuafa, together with stakeholders and the West Sumatra government, held an inauguration ceremony for the revitalization of the ecotourism area and MSMEs after the Sumatra floods on Tuesday (February 14, 2026) at the Lestari Alam Glamping Area, Aduriang, Padang Pariaman, West Sumatra.

The inauguration ceremony, attended by 50 beneficiaries, is part of Dompet Dhuafa’s post-disaster economic recovery program. The aim is to revive the livelihoods of tourism operators.

The inauguration of the revitalization of the ecotourism area and MSMEs was attended by the Head of the West Sumatra Social Service, Syaifullah; the Chair of the Dompet Dhuafa Republika Foundation, Ahmad Juaini; the Chair of Indonesia Berdaya, Anna Rahmawati; the Mayor of Lubuk Alung, the Mayor of Jorong, the police, the military, as well as media partners, influencers, and program beneficiaries.

The Chairman of the Dompet Dhuafa Republika Foundation, Ahmad Juwaini, said that the revitalization of the ecotourism area in Lestari Alam Glamping was intended to restore this place as a tourist destination and also to support disaster survivors in continuing their lives and earning a living again.

“Economic recovery is very important because after the survivors’ urgent needs are met, they will be faced with the reality of having to earn a living on their own. In this opportunity, support for business sectors provides survivors with the chance to work and start their own businesses using the resources they have, ensuring their lives continue,” said Ahmad.

Deep gratitude was expressed by Syaifullah, Head of the West Sumatra Social Service. The recovery of the economic sector is urgently needed by the community to quickly recover from its economic downturn.

“I would like to express my highest appreciation to Dompet Dhuafa for launching an economic recovery program, especially for Lestari Alam Glamping. We know that many of the community’s means of livelihood have been destroyed, and this program provides them with sustainable hope. Hopefully, other philanthropic institutions will follow suit,” said Syaifullah.

Lestari Alam Glamping was initiated by a local leader, Ritno Kurniawan, who has been working with Dompet Dhuafa since 2024. Ritno persistently encouraged the local community to preserve nature by providing alternative livelihoods, namely as tour guides for the natural attractions in Lubuk Aluang, one of which is rafting on the Batang Anai River.

Anna Rahmawati, Chairperson of the Indonesia Berdaya Entrepreneurship Foundation, explained that the support provided by Dompet Dhuafa and Indonesia Berdaya aims to restore adequate infrastructure so that the Lestari Alam Glamping area can resume operations and be visited by tourists.

“So before the disaster, specifically in 2024, we had already collaborated to add facilities in this area. These include clean toilets, a prayer room, and several glamping equipment such as mattresses, tents, and so on. However, after the disaster, access to this area was cut off, so we helped restore road access and build water channels so that this place could be suitable for tourists to visit,” said Anna.

Dompet Dhuafa and Indonesia Berdaya hope that this revitalization will trigger further collaboration with stakeholders and the local community so that this tourist attraction can thrive and provide a livelihood for the disaster survivors, thereby restoring their hope for life and prosperity.
