SOUTH TANGERANG —-— Dozens of mechanics and hundreds of online motorcycle taxi drivers gathered at the Lotte Grosir Ciputat complex in South Tangerang on Sunday (March 1, 2026) for the launch of the BerOJOL Program (Supporting Businesses and Maintaining Online Motorcycle Taxis). This program is an initiative by Dompet Dhuafa to provide free motorcycle maintenance services for online ride-hailing drivers as a flagship program for Ramadan 1447 H.
Although the number of drivers continues to rise year after year, this growth is not always accompanied by decent working conditions. Most drivers work 9–16 hours a day, averaging 10 trips, yet their net income after app fees remains relatively limited. Meanwhile, vehicle maintenance costs often pose a significant financial burden.
A total of 200 online motorcycle taxi drivers received free motorcycle service during the launch event. Not only that, they also received fitrah zakat rice from Dompet Dhuafa as an additional form of support for performing their religious duties during the holy month.
The afternoon event was also enlivened by a performance by musician Aldi Taher, as well as a chat session with Ojol drivers, IK alumni mechanics, and Dompet Dhuafa officials discussing their experiences and hopes for this program.

In her remarks, Sulis Tiqomah, Chair of Dompet Dhuafa’s Ramadan 1447 H Committee, stated that Ramadan is a time to provide solutions that foster mutual support within the community. The BerOJOL program is designed to help ride-hailing drivers stay safe, comfortable, and efficient as they earn their livelihood during this holy and blessed month.
Meanwhile, on the same occasion, the Vice Chair of Dompet Dhuafa’s Board of Directors, Herdiansah, said that zakat, infaq, sadaqah, and waqf collected from the community must be able to address the real needs of informal sector workers.
“Ojol drivers are an important part of the urban economy. It is only right that we support them, whether in terms of workplace safety, health, or their basic needs,” he said.

On the launch day, the service center opened with 20 service lanes staffed by 41 mechanics who are graduates of Dompet Dhuafa’s Institute of Independence (IK) Program. These mechanics are alumni of a professional training program designed for individuals with limited access to formal education but high potential for growth.
IK Business Unit Manager, Iqbal Ardiansyah, explained that for this BerOJOL program, IK has deployed four Promatic Workshops located in Cilangkap (East Jakarta), Pagelarang (East Jakarta), Kodau (Bekasi), and Kelapa Dua (Tangerang).
“IK’s program is indeed designed to produce professionals ready to enter the workforce. Through BerOJOL, the alumni not only get the opportunity to handle many customers but can also directly contribute to helping ojol drivers,” explained Iqbal.
In addition to free motorcycle maintenance services—which include oil changes, brake inspections, tire checks, spark plug replacements, air filter replacements, chain or CVT inspections, and electrical system checks—Dompet Dhuafa also provides free healthcare services through LKC (Free Healthcare Services). These health checkups are part of efforts to maintain the stamina and fitness of drivers amidst their busy schedules during Ramadan.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Lusia, an Ojol driver since the Covid-19 pandemic, expressed her gratitude for this program. She is a cancer survivor and now needs to be the family’s breadwinner to pay for her child’s schooling.
“It just so happened that the rice at home had run out. Alhamdulillah, today I received fitrah zakat rice and a free motorcycle service,” she said emotionally.

Normally, he would have to spend hundreds of thousands of rupiah on maintenance to keep his motorcycle in top condition. However, through this program, he received the service free of charge.
Through the BerOJOL Program, Dompet Dhuafa targets a total of 1,447 ride-hailing drivers in the Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi areas as beneficiaries. This program is expected not only to maintain vehicle roadworthiness but also to provide a sense of safety, health, and blessings for the drivers as they observe Ramadan. (Dompet Dhuafa)
