BerOJOL: A Blessing for Online Motorcycle Taxi Drivers—Dompet Dhuafa Launches Free Motorcycle Maintenance Service

TANGERANG, BANTEN —-— Online motorcycle taxi (Ojol) drivers are the most visible face of the urban digital economy. Why? Because millions of people depend on app-based transportation and delivery services in major cities.

Every day, Ojol drivers fill the streets, transporting passengers, food, and goods. They also bridge the gap between households’ needs and economic hubs. Yet behind this seemingly dynamic mobility, the lives of most Ojol drivers remain stagnant. Low income, nonstop work hours, and the burden of daily expenses make this profession increasingly far from the word “prosperity.”

To alleviate the hardships of ojol drivers, during this blessed month, Dompet Dhuafa, through the Institute of Independence (IK), is launching the BerOJOL Program (Supporting Business and Maintaining Online Motorcycle Taxis). This program targets 1,447 ojol vehicles spread across the Greater Jakarta area. BerOJOL provides free vehicle service and maintenance.

Furthermore, this program involves 20 small workshop partners with the aim of boosting the MSME economy. BerOJOL service locations are spread across Promatic Bekasi, Promatic Tangerang, Promatic East Jakarta, and 20 partner workshops in Depok and Bogor.

“The event, held at Lotte Grosir in Ciputat, Tangerang, on Sunday (March 1, 2026)—and attended by Aldi Taher—is expected to encourage online motorcycle taxi drivers to maintain their motorcycles promptly, given the increased demand during Ramadan. “This event is also supported by Paragoncorp; we hope to service 200 online motorcycle taxis at the outset,” said Herdiansah, Deputy Chairman of the Dompet Dhuafa Republika Foundation.

“Thank you to all collaborators from various parties, ranging from corporate entities to donors, for making this event possible. We aim to service 10,000 online motorcycle taxis within a year, and for this Ramadan, we target 1,447 online motorcycle taxis,” said Sulis Tiqomah, Chairperson of Ramadan 1447 H at Dompet Dhuafa.

“At this event, free health check-ups are also available through Dompet Dhuafa’s Free Health Services (LKC). We support the health of every online ride-hailing driver so they can work in good condition, while also distributing Zakat Fitrah. The Madina Zone MSMEs are also introducing various empowerment product programs,” added Sulis Tiqomah.

“I’ve been working as an online ride-hailing driver since 2017. Alhamdulillah, thank you to the Dompet Dhuafa donors who have maintained and serviced my motorcycle. This allows me to continue earning a living and reduces the financial burden of motorcycle maintenance costs, and I also receive rice upon returning home,” said Afi, a female online ride-hailing driver.

The requirements or criteria for beneficiaries of this program include being officially registered as an online ride-hailing driver partner and having a net income of less than Rp3 million per month (<Rp3,000,000).

Through the BerOJOL Program, Dompet Dhuafa also aims to demonstrate that the training and educational initiatives at the Independence Institute have produced many skilled and self-reliant auto mechanics, thereby improving their economic well-being.

The Independence Institute is funded by zakat collected by Dompet Dhuafa from the community. Alhamdulillah, the Independence Institute—a vocational and entrepreneurship training center focused on empowering the underprivileged, out-of-school youth, and people with disabilities—has provided significant benefits to the underprivileged. Through training in hard skills and soft skills—ranging from automotive mechanics and digital live selling to barista skills—they have finally become empowered, self-reliant, job-ready, and capable of starting their own businesses.
