JOMBANG, EAST JAVA — Alhamdulillah, starting 2023, Hasyim Asy’ari Tebuireng Hospital in Jombang officially operated on Thursday (2/2/2023). Held solemnly with a joint prayer, became the official sign of the service of Hasyim Asy’ari Hospital, as well as coinciding with the 3 (three) years after the death of (Alm.) Salahuddin Wahid (Gus Sholah).
The joint prayer was also attended by Ibu Nyai Farida as the wife of alm. Gus Sholah, Mr. Willy Wahid as Commissioner of PT. Tebuireng DDM, Director of Hasyim Asy’ari Hospital dr. Aria Dewanggana, MARS., and a number of employees of Hasyim Asy’ari Hospital.
The initiation of the construction of this hospital began with the first visit of alm. Gus Sholah to Rumah Sehat Terpadu Dompet Dhuafa Hospital in Bogor last 2017. During his visit, Gus Sholah visited the whole part of the hospital, he often interacted with the beneficiaries. Seeing the warm smile and courage to help from the medical team, he determined his heart to cooperate with Dompet Dhuafa in the construction of this waqf hospital.
A few months after his visit, the extended family of K.H Hasyim Asyari decided to donate a plot of land covering an area of 1 (one) hectare. The location was still in the environment of Pesantren Tebuireng in Jombang.
So that in 2018, it became a historic moment for Dompet Dhuafa to build a waqf hospital called Hasyim Asy’ari Hospital in East Java. Precisely on September 19, 2018, alhamdulillah together with all parties, Dompet Dhuafa carried out a symbolic groundbreaking at the construction site of Pesantren Tebuireng, Jombang, East Java.
Hasyim Asy’ari is a waqf hospital that uses the concepts of physical health, mental health, social health and spiritual health. Hasyim Asy’ari Hospital seeks to optimize the good values of KH. Hasyim Asy’ari in order to be beneficial for dhuafa people who need trusted and professional health services.
This 3 (three)-storey building has facilities and services as a Type C Hospital. The basic reason was by choosing as a Type C Hospital, Hasyim Asyari Hospital can serve more dhuafa people. Some of the rooms that have been built are pharmacies, polyclinics, ICU rooms, physiology, radiology, CT scans, medical wards, endoscopy, laboratories, and others.

Waqf General Manager of Dompet Dhuafa, Bobby Manulang, explained that wakaf produktif (productive waqf) was a basic form of waqf that could have a continuous beneficial effect. When for example, a Nadzir received a waqf from the society, then the waqf underwent a conversion process, for example into an asset, and provided long-term benefits for many people.
“Just like some waqf which was converted into a Hospital, which continuously provides health services for dhuafa patients. As well as the waqf which was converted into a School, which is beneficial for dhuafa and orphan students. Even the waqf of productive agricultural land, which is useful for workers on the farmland, as well as dhuafa who receive benefits from the surplus result of the waqf,” Bobby said.

The representative of Pondok Pesantren Tebuireng Foundation, Gus Gofar, also expressed his gratitude. He explained that Hasyim Asyari Hospital was a new hospital that did not grow out of a clinic, but was directly built into a type C hospital. According to him, the socialization to the society about the existence of this waqf-based hospital was needed.
“Incidentally, in South Jombang, there is still no hospital of this type,” he said.
Gus Gofar also reminded that Hasyim Asyari Hospital was the dream of Salahuddin Wahid and Parni Hadi. He hopes that it will be realized quickly and become a benefit.
“Alhamdulillah, what Dompet Dhuafa has strived for can be realized like this, I think it needed a struggle. Maybe Dompet Dhuafa has already built a hospital, but for Tebuireng, this is the first one. Hopefully, this hospital can operate soon,” he said emotionally.
“This hospital is quite a long journey, from the groundbreaking to the establishment of the building as it is today, but all challenges can be faced with the courage and effort to realize a waqf-based hospital. This is still in the journey stage, hopefully what Dompet Dhuafa and Danamon Syariah are doing can be strong, so that what we hope can be realized. Although there are still obstacles here and there because of some things, it should be ignored because there is still a lot to prepare for later,” explained Gus Ghoffar on his occasion.
Hopefully, with the official opening of the Hasyim Asy’ari Hospital service, it will be able to spread benefits for wider society in Jombang area, especially the dhuafa people. (Dompet Dhuafa / Waqf / Dhika)
