DEPOK — Fifty orphaned children were invited by Dompet Dhuafa to go shopping at LuLu Hypermarket, The Park Sawangan, Depok, on Sunday (August 28, 2022). They received free shopping vouchers with a specific nominal value. Accompanied by older siblings from the Dompet Dhuafa team and donors, the children were free to choose items they liked.
Smiles and laughter filled the faces of the children. That day marked the end of Orphan Month, Muharram 1444. One of the brightest smiles belonged to Anisa Nur Umaira (10), a fourth-grade student at a school in Central Jakarta. Anisa’s joy was evident from the moment she arrived at the shopping location. She did not hesitate to share her joy with the person accompanying her shopping.
“Now, children, please start shopping as you like, accompanied by your brothers and sisters from Dompet Dhuafa,” said the coordinator of Dompet Dhuafa Volunteer (DDV), Fajar Firmansyah, to the orphans and their companions.

Still wearing a cheerful expression, Anisa immediately invited her older sister to head toward the school supplies shelves. The first thing on her mind since arriving at LuLu Hypermarket was to buy colored pencils and other writing supplies. As it turned out, Anisa was indeed very fond of drawing. At school, she often participated in drawing competitions and won first place.
This hobby was reinforced by one of her friends who said that Anisa really loved drawing. At school, she often ranked second.
“I love drawing. I often win drawing competitions at school,” Anisa replied when asked by the Dompet Dhuafa team about why she was buying colored pencils.
After successfully obtaining the main item she was aiming for, Anisa pushed her shopping cart toward the snack section, eventually ending up at the cashier. She selected various snacks, placing them in her shopping cart while sharing that she lives with her grandfather. Her mother resides in a different house with her two older brothers and one younger sister. Her father had passed away when Anisa was five years old.

She admitted that she would share the snacks she bought on her way home with her grandfather, mother, and siblings. “I live with my grandfather. My mother, brother, and sister live elsewhere,” she said excitedly.
While her hobby is drawing, her aspirations are different. Anisa expressed her admiration for doctors who help treat sick people. Her favorite subject is mathematics. May Anisa continue to pursue her hobby and one day become a doctor who benefits everyone. (Dompet Dhuafa / Muthohar)
