BADUNG, BALI — Acting as a multilateral platform that presents concrete deliverables for solving global challenges, the Indonesian G20 Presidency continues to get views from various groups through a number of existing Engagement Groups. The Civil 20 (C20) Forum is one of the Engagement Groups in the G20 which is intended as a platform for civil society organizations around the world to voice their aspirations to world leaders.
After going through various series, this event ended with the C20 Indonesia Summit 2022, on Thursday (6/10/2022). This activity was also to submit the C20 policy pack and communiqué to President Joko Widodo, represented by the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto as the First Chair of the G20 Sherpa Track.
The submission of the policy pack mandate and communiqué which was carried out in Nusa Dua, Badung, Bali, was witnessed directly by various representatives from a number of member countries and civil society organizations, one of which was Dompet Dhuafa. Since the beginning, Dompet Dhuafa has continued to play an active role in the C20 Engagement Group and is committed to delivering the policy pack mandate at the G20 event through the SDGs and Humanitarian Working Group.
“The SDGs and Humanitarian Working Group has raised three priority issues. We urge G20 leaders to increase investments to build resilience by increasing humanitarian funding, reducing remittance costs to below 3%, and expanding the scope of adaptive social protection. The three priority issues aim to ensure that hundreds of millions of people on earth affected by humanitarian crises can reduce suffering from crises and share the benefits of development to achieve sustainable resilience as promised by the SDGs,” said Syamsul Ardiansyah, Senior Officer of Dompet Dhuafa Strategic Alliance and Coordinator of the SDGs and Humanitarian Working Group.
The SDGs and Humanitarian Working Group is one of the platforms under the Civil 20 Forum. In addition, there are also various other Working Groups within the C20 that discuss gender and inequality, education, digitalization, anti-corruption and finance, vaccines, climate, and all priority issues.
“The work to ensure that no one is left behind should not stop here. Advocacy work in the development and humanitarian sectors must continue, at the national, regional and global levels. The issues of Humanity, Peace and Development are expected to continue to be explored in the upcoming G20 presidency,” Syamsul concluded.
During the handover procession, Airlangga explained that the implementation of the G20 Summit is just a day away and the draft leader is under discussion. According to him, the policy pack submitted by the C20 forum is an important recommendation for the government to bring to the G20 event which will soon be held on the Island of the Gods, Bali.
“With the handover of the policy pack and the C20 Communique, we hope that the C20 community can work together for a greener, more prosperous and better civil society. While the G20 Summit is approaching and the draft leaders’ declaration is under discussion, this policy package will be a valuable insight and enrich the context of the conversation in Bali this November,” said Airlangga during his remarks after the handover of the C20 Communique.
Airlangga also said that civil society has a crucial role as a key partner for the Government in ensuring that policy formulation and implementation can run effectively and inclusively to accommodate people’s interests, expand views to protect the environment, promote social inclusion, and encourage economic development.
“For that reason, I would like to appreciate their role in ensuring that inclusivity remains at the core of our policy formulation and delivery and today’s meeting is certainly interesting because of the importance of advocacy and input from all parties outside the Government to support better policies that directly touch the community,” Airlangga explained.
Furthermore, Airlangga also hopes that civil society can continue to contribute to strengthening the Government’s response to global social and economic challenges in a hyperconnected world by presenting advocacy and recommendations through the C20 Forum.
Besides being witnessed by a number of C20 representatives from various countries, the event was also attended by the Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Chair of C20 Indonesia, Sherpa of C20 Indonesia, Steering Committee of C20 Indonesia, International Advisory Committee of C20 Indonesia, and Troika of G20.
