Cikawung Residents’ Dream of Clean Water Finally Realized Through Pipelining

SUKABUMI, WEST JAVA — The clean water problem for residents of Cikawung village, Babakan Panjang village, Nagrak subdistrict, Sukabumi regency, has finally been resolved. Dompet Dhuafa built a pipeline so that clean water, which has been difficult to reach, can be brought to the homes and settlements of Cikawung residents.

On Saturday (12/08/2022) Dompet Dhuafa inaugurated the Program Air Untuk Kehidupan (Water for Life Program) in the form of a pipeline in Cikawung Village. The inauguration of clean water facilities for residents of Cikawung Village was also attended by Drs. Sabar Suko as Head of Nagrak District, Saepuloh as Head of Babakan Panjang Village, as well as representatives from the Pangrango Adventure Lovers (Pecang) community, donor representatives, and dozens of local residents.

“As previously stated, in Babakan Panjang Village there are still many villages that have clean water problems. Even though we are in a highland area, the springs are located very far from residential areas. The pipe installation program is certainly something that the people of Babakan Panjang Village have been eagerly awaiting,” explained Sabar Suko.

Air Untuk Kehidupan (Water for Life) is a permanent program of Dompet Dhuafa to help communities experiencing water scarcity, which has been realized in several provinces throughout Indonesia. In Sukabumi, West Java, Cikawung is the first program. There are 600 to 700 beneficiaries of this program.

“Hopefully this program will provide optimal benefits and do good for the community so that there will be no more stories of people having difficulty accessing clean water,” said Dompet Dhuafa’s General Manager of Culture and Education, Herman Budianto, during his speech.

In addition, representing the donors of Dompet Dhuafa, he hopes that the program that was inaugurated today will be well maintained so that the benefits can continue to be felt by the local community.

“Hopefully this program will continue forever so that as long as this water flows and its benefits are felt by the community along with goodness and rewards will continue to flow as well, we entrust it to the community as mandated by the donors so that it can be cared for together as best as possible,” he concluded.

So far, many Cikawung residents have been fetching clean water from the river themselves, using jerry cans that are quite a distance from the settlement. Seeing this, Dompet Dhuafa then conducted an assessment and built a clean water facility with pipes running to the center of the residential area, where the water is collected in a water tank before being piped to residents’ homes through the many hoses provided.
