JAKARTA —-— Dompet Dhuafa continues to strongly condemn the hijacking and detention of the Global Sumud Flotilla 2.0 humanitarian fleet by Israeli forces in international waters. These actions are considered a serious violation of international humanitarian law as well as a real threat to the global humanitarian mission for the Palestinian people.
Based on information gathered from the Zakat Forum (FOZ), the Global Sumud Flotilla 2.0 humanitarian fleet consists of 50 ships carrying medical, food, and logistical aid for the people of Gaza, Palestine. The fleet also transports hundreds of humanitarian activists and journalists from various countries.
As of Tuesday (May 19, 2026) at 9:02 PM WIB, it was reported that more than 100 activists were detained and abducted by Israeli forces following the interception of 40 humanitarian ships in international waters. Among them were 9 Indonesian citizens (WNI), including 2 humanitarian activists from Dompet Dhuafa: Herman Budianto and Ronggo Wirasanu.
Ahmad Juwaini, Chairman of Dompet Dhuafa’s Board of Directors and Director of the Global Peace Convoy Indonesia (GPCI), expressed deep concern and condemnation of these repressive actions. He stated that humanitarian missions should receive full protection under international law.
“We strongly condemn the acts of hijacking and detention of humanitarian activists who are carrying out a humanitarian mission for the Palestinian people. The aid they were carrying is a trust from the people of Indonesia and the world to help civilians currently facing a humanitarian crisis in Gaza,” said Ahmad Juwaini during the Press Conference: Crisis Report on Humanitarian Mission GSF 2.0, in Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (May 20, 2026).

Ahmad reiterated that the safety of the entire humanitarian delegation, including Herman Budianto and Ronggo Wirasanu, must be a serious concern for the international community. He also urged the Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to take swift and decisive diplomatic action to ensure the safety and release of all Indonesian citizens currently in detention.
“We call on the Indonesian government and the international community to immediately take active steps to secure the release of these humanitarian activists. Humanitarian aid routes must not be obstructed, let alone attacked,” he added.
Dompet Dhuafa, together with the Zakat Forum (FOZ) and various other humanitarian organizations, continues to coordinate intensively with various parties to monitor the situation and work toward the release of the humanitarian delegates.
Additionally, Dompet Dhuafa is calling on the Indonesian public to maintain solidarity with the humanitarian struggle for the Palestinian people and to support efforts to deliver humanitarian aid through all available channels.
At the same time, the Zakat Forum (FOZ) has issued an official statement condemning the hijacking of the Global Sumud Flotilla 2.0 humanitarian fleet and urging the release of all detained activists, including the nine Indonesian citizens on the mission. (Dompet Dhuafa)
