Dimas’s Testimony Joins Dompet Dhuafa Volunteers

CIANJUR, WEST JAVA — “When I can interact and listen to people’s complaints and accompany them to be able to smile again, it was a memorable experience for me,” admitted Dimas. H. Prasetyo, one of the volunteers of Dompet Dhuafa West Java.

The young man from Bandung participated in the emergency response-recovery Disaster Management Center (DMC) of Dompet Dhuafa during the Earthquake in Cianjur. As a young man fluent in Sundanese, his role is crucial in Dompet Dhuafa’s humanitarian action in Cianjur.

He became an intermediary factor between the indigenous people of Cianjur and Dompet Dhuafa. So it is normal if he is assigned to be in an assessment team during the emergency response-recovery assignment in Cianjur. Being in an assessment team, he was required to trace the points affected by the disaster, ranging from those that can be passed by four-wheeled vehicles to those that can only be passed on foot.

“At first, trial and error, uh, it became a continuity to volunteer. Because honestly, I want to be a useful human being and benefit others. That’s why I am interested in volunteering at Dompet Dhuafa,” continued Dimas.

In addition to being an assessment team, he is also active in the logistics team. Starting from collecting data on goods in and out to becoming a logistics warehouse night watch team.

He didn’t stop there, he also became a team that distributed the aid entrusted to Dompet Dhuafa. Distributing aid to direct beneficiaries while remaining cautious about passing through risky streets.

“Alhamdulillah, there were not even obstacles during his time as a volunteer. My parents also appreciate whatever I do. Although, consequently, I have not had the opportunity to find a life partner,” he joked.

According to Dimas, the response action in Cianjur is quite memorable. Because the response action in Cianjur is among the longest actions. Sometimes also worried about the presence of aftershocks.

“Quite amazed by the response this time. Because this is the longest response activity I’ve been involved in. I can feel directly being a survivor due to the many aftershocks. On the one hand, I got to know new friends from other Dompet Dhuafa volunteers. They were very kind and gladly accepted me as their new comrade,” Dimas added.

The conditions in the affected areas that are often difficult to predict and even not infrequently become a risk-filled aspect, he did not give up and grim himself during his time as a humanitarian volunteer at Dompet Dhuafa. He even advised all the humanitarian volunteers out there always to stay healthy and happy.

“Hopefully, all volunteers will always be healthy and happy in their duties and have the same intention to help others. Long live the volunteering,” concluded Dimas.
