DMC Dompet Dhuafa and Joint SAR Team Find Drowning Victims in Teluk Naga Bay

TANGERANG – The Disaster Management Center (DMC) team from Dompet Dhuafa, together with other organizations that are part of the joint Search and Rescue (SAR) team, successfully found a victim who had drowned on the beach of Muara Pertamina Village, Teluk Naga District, Tangerang Regency, Banten, on Tuesday (08/23/2022). The victim was found dead, floating near a mangrove forest. The location where the victim was found was approximately 1 nautical mile from the incident site near the coastline.

The victim, identified by the initials S, was a 41-year-old man from Pesing Koneng Village, Kedoya Utara Subdistrict, Kebon Jeruk District, West Jakarta.

Previously, on Sunday (August 21, 2022), the victim was fishing on a beach platform. The lid of his fish box fell into the water and gradually drifted away. The victim then tried to swim after the lid toward the middle of the sea. For unknown reasons, he was unable to swim back to the beach platform and eventually drowned. Witnesses at the scene attempted to assist, but unfortunately, the victim was swept away by the ocean and went missing.

“The Disaster Management Center (DMC) of Dompet Dhuafa, as one of the institutions with a water rescue team, has sent a team since last Sunday (August 21, 2022),” explained Haryo Mojopahit, Chief Executive of DMC Dompet Dhuafa, via a short message.

Ahmad Barqu Sudjai, a member of the DMC Dompet Dhuafa Response Team at the incident site, stated that over the past three days, the DMC Dompet Dhuafa team has been working alongside a joint SAR team to search the coastal waters within varying radii. Additionally, the team has conducted diving operations at various points where victims are believed to be located.

“The DMC Dompet Dhuafa team, along with the joint SAR members, conducted a sweep and dived within a 4 km (four kilometer) radius from the incident site,” he explained.

Fazzli, S.A.P., M.Si., Head of the Jakarta SAR Office and SAR Mission Coordinator (SMC) for the operation, further explained that the joint SAR team immediately initiated the evacuation process of the victim to the funeral home located in Pesing Gadog, Kebon Jeruk District, West Jakarta.
“On the third day of the search, we finally found the victim this morning thanks to the relentless efforts of the joint SAR team, who resumed the search using a rubber boat,” he clarified.

He also confirmed that his team, together with joint SAR elements, began the search on Tuesday (August 23, 2022) morning at around 7:00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time by dividing the search area into two sections. The first team conducted a sweep by expanding the search area to 28 NM² in the waters using rubber boats, while the second team conducted a sweep with visual observation along the coastline up to a radius of 10 KM from the incident location.

The joint SAR units involved in the SAR operation include the Jakarta SAR Office, Teluk Naga Police Station, Tangerang Regency Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), CAT Rescue, IEA, DMC DD, LAZNAS BSMU, PALA BAJA, RTB Teluk Naga, Brigade 08, fishermen, and local residents. (Dompet Dhuafa / DMC / Fajar)
