DMC Dompet Dhuafa and We Care Foundation Distribute 120 Food Packages in Flood-Affected Areas of Pakistan

SINDH, PAKISTAN — The Disaster Management Center (DMC) of Dompet Dhuafa distributed food packages to flood survivors in Pakistan on Wednesday (09/21/2022). Through the We Care Foundation, one of Dompet Dhuafa’s local partners in Pakistan, the food packages reached the flood survivors. A total of 120 packages were distributed to the community in Qadir Dino Shah, Doulatpur Taluka Shahbandar, Sujawal District, Sindh Province, Pakistan.

“We are very grateful for the assistance from Dompet Dhuafa’s generous donors. Through their kindness, 120 families have been helped,” explained Haryo Mojopahit, Chief Executive of Dompet Dhuafa’s DMC.

The Qadir Dino Shah area is one of the regions affected by the floods. Its proximity to an overflowing river makes it one of the areas most vulnerable to natural disasters such as floods.

“Thank you for the assistance provided,” said Muhammad Siddique, one of the beneficiaries.

As has been known since mid-June 2022, the region of Pakistan has experienced heavy rainfall due to the monsoon season. This has caused the Indus River to overflow and flood the surrounding areas.

According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in its Weekly Regional Humanitarian Snapshot report (September 19, 2022), nearly 2 million homes were affected by the devastating floods on September 19, with 788,000 homes partially destroyed and 7.8 million completely destroyed.

Additionally, approximately 12,700 kilometers of roads were damaged, and over 370 bridges were partially damaged or destroyed. In total, 1,559 people have died, and 12,850 were injured due to the devastating floods. Initial estimates based on currently available data indicate that approximately 7.6 million people may be temporarily displaced.

An estimated 973,632 livestock have died due to the weeks-long floods. The government has declared 81 districts in Balochistan (32), Sindh (23), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (17), Gilgit-Baltistan (6), and Punjab (3) as disaster-affected areas.
