JAKARTA -— The atmosphere at the Jami Daarul Fathim Mosque in the Duri Kosambi area of West Jakarta on Friday afternoon (September 12, 2025) felt different. After performing Friday prayers, the congregation remained gathered, witnessing a special moment: the handover of a funeral vehicle donated by Dompet Dhuafa in collaboration with the Hajj Financial Management Agency (BPKH).
For the people of Kosambi and its surroundings, the presence of this vehicle is like a new light that provides convenience at the most crucial moments, namely when transporting loved ones to their final resting place.
The symbolic handover of the vehicle was received by Drs. Rahmatullah, Chairman of the DKM Masjid Jami Daarul Fathim. Also present were a number of figures, ranging from the Supervisory Board of Dompet Dhuafa Yayat Supriyatna, Director of Resource Mobilization of Dompet Dhuafa Etika Setiawanti, to representatives of BPKH, Dr. Sulistyowati. Also present was Sigit Purnomo Syamsuddin Said, better known as Pasha Ungu, Member of Commission VIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives.

In his speech, Yayat Supriyatna said that this assistance was born from the ongoing collaboration between Dompet Dhuafa and BPKH.
“Dompet Dhuafa received funds from BPKH in the form of a hearse. Hopefully, this car can provide great benefits, especially for the surrounding community, and also West Jakarta in general,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dr. Sulistyowati explained that this hearse is part of the distribution of BPKH’s Permanent Community Fund (DAU). These funds come from the surplus of hajj fund management, which is allocated for the welfare of the community.
“This year, we distributed Rp240 billion in DAU to various regions in Indonesia. This hearse is one of them.
We hope that this mandate will be safeguarded and maintained together so that the community can continue to reap its benefits,“ she said.
On the same occasion, Pasha Ungu conveyed the spiritual meaning behind the existence of the hearse. He reminded everyone that taking care of the deceased is fardu kifayah, a collective obligation of Muslims.
”The Prophet Muhammad recommended that funerals be held immediately when someone dies. If the deceased was a pious person, those involved in the process will also receive rewards. Hopefully, this hearse will be a means to help the community fulfill this obligation more quickly and properly,” said Pasha.

The head of the Jami Daarul Fathim Mosque Management Board, Drs. Rahmatullah, said that for the surrounding community, the availability of a hearse is often an urgent need. It is not uncommon for families to have to struggle to find a vehicle in the midst of grief. Now, with the availability of hearses from Dompet Dhuafa and BPKH, Kosambi residents have a solution that is closer and more accessible.
“Alhamdulillah, we are very grateful for this trust. This hearse will greatly help the community when a resident passes away. Insha Allah, we will take good care of it and use it for the benefit of the people,” he said.
This is not the first time that hearse assistance has been provided. Ambulances and hearses from BPKH have been distributed several times through Dompet Dhuafa. In fact, every year, these two institutions consistently carry out joint programs, ranging from the procurement of ambulances and hearse vehicles to the construction of schools in remote areas of the country.
Currently, one of the programs underway is the renovation of schools in rural Kalimantan. This program is clear evidence that community funds are not only circulating in big cities, but are also present in remote areas that still lack educational facilities.
In addition, Dompet Dhuafa also has a program unit called BARZAH (Badan Pemulasaraan Jenazah). In the future, BARZAH is expected to synergize with this hearse assistance program, particularly in the preparation and transportation of the deceased, so that services for the community become more comprehensive and integrated.
The handover ceremony was then closed with a prayer. Residents, mosque administrators, and invited guests hoped that this funeral car would be used wisely, well maintained, and truly beneficial to the community. (Dompet Dhuafa)
