SINDH, PAKISTAN — The Dompet Dhuafa Response Team together with We Care Foundation distributed food package assistance to 420 Pakistani flash flood survivors on Monday (10/10/2022). The distribution of food aid for Pakistan’s floods located in Usma Village, Soorjani Protection Bund, Sujawal District, Sindh, Pakistan, is a severely affected area.

The mandate of indonesian donors who were distributed that day, there were 50 aid packages containing rice, flour, sugar, oil, insect repellent, and mosquito nets. “The condition is indeed very concerned. Seeing the survivors, especially the elderly and young children, they have to take shelter, sand, and eat rough under small rattan tents,” explained Narwan, The Response Team of DMC (Disaster Management Center) Dompet Dhuafa in Pakistan.

Narwan also explained that the Usma Village area was one of the worst flood points in Sujawal City. The survivors have been living in tents they set up independently for about 2 months, with limited life and access that makes them have to survive the help of donors. The majority of populations are farmers and ranchers.

“Until now, their homes are still flooded,” he said.

Dompet Dhuafa became one of the institutions/NGOs that have been trusted by the government to help distribute aid to Pakistan. Dompet Dhuafa itself has 3 (three) stages of aid distribution. Some time ago, DMC Dompet Dhuafa had sent assistance in the form of logistics through the cooperation of local institutions in Pakistan. Furthermore, Dompet Dhuafa will build several pre-facilities, such as temporary and permanent housing, mosques/Musholla and others.

After distributing the basic food packages, Dompet Dhuafa Response Team will also roll out the Healthy Service Action or Aksi Layanan Sehat (ALS), as well as establish a Communal Shelter for several families there.

“We’re going to present ALS. From the interim assessment, many survivors have been affected by skin diseases and malaria,” Narwan added. (Dompet Dhuafa / DMC / Dedi / Dhika)
