Dompet Dhuafa Distributes Braille Al Quran, Supports the Spirit of Reciting the Qur’an for the Blind at Fortufis

JAKARTA — The enthusiasm for studying the holy book of the Al-Quran shown by our brothers and sisters with visual impairments should be a wake-up call for us. Despite their limitations, they are still diligent in studying and practicing the contents of the holy book of the Al-Quran.

Unwilling to see the spirit of blind brothers and sisters fade away to read and memorize the holy book of the Al Quran, Dompet Dhuafa provided Braille Al Quran assistance from donors to the Fisabilillah Blind Forum (Fortufis). A total of 26 Braille Al Quran copies with the latest printed edition were entrusted to the Fisabilillah Blind Forum (Fortufis) for daily use by more than 100 of its members.

The distribution of the Braille Al Quran was carried out at the Al Mubarok Mosque, Rawamangun Village, Pulo Gadung District, East Jakarta, on Saturday (10/09/2022). Fortufis members spread across the Greater Jakarta area were very enthusiastic about attending this activity. Despite the limitations, Fortufis members did not hesitate to use public transportation from early in the morning.

Like Ipit Rosadi (44), who is familiarly called Ipit, he was very enthusiastic about coming from the Meruya area, West Jakarta, to the location using the Trans Jakarta Bus. Even though it was quite far, Ipit was happy because he could gather and socialize with other Fortufis members and get a new Braille Al Quran from Dompet Dhuafa.

Ipit himself went blind when he was in fourth grade of elementary school. His vision deteriorated and worsened with the shrinking of his eyeballs until he lost his vision completely. However, this condition did not prevent Ipit from continuing to work and worship, one of which was by reading verses from the Holy Quran.

“I used to be able to see, in fourth grade my eyes started to shrink until finally I couldn’t see. Yes, it was tough at first, but now I’m back in the spirit, especially after the birth of Fortufis, I’m more excited to do many activities, one of which is reading the Al Quran,” said Ipit.

This Braille Al-Quran assistance has encouraged the Fortufis Community and all its members not to give up hope of receiving divine rewards. Erwin, as Chairman of Fortufis, expressed his gratitude to Dompet Dhuafa and its donors for continuing to provide assistance to visually impaired people. In the future, Erwin hopes that there will be other collaborations in providing Braille Al-Quran reading training for the visually impaired.

“On behalf of myself and all Fortufis members, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Dompet Dhuafa and all the donors. In addition, in the future, hopefully we can work together again to provide attention to our blind brothers and sisters. We see a need for a tutor to learn to read the Braille Al-Quran, because it is not easy and not many have mastered it. Hopefully Dompet Dhuafa can be a bridge for us to get this mentor,” said Erwin.

This Braille Al-Quran donation will be the opening of Dompet Dhuafa’s realization in providing attention and assistance to blind brothers and sisters in the Fortufis Community. Dompet Dhuafa will continue to support the da’wah needs required by the blind to obtain blessings from the Al-Quran.

“We will continue to provide guidance to our blind brothers and sisters, especially those in Fortufis. We must appreciate the enthusiasm of Fortufis members to get blessings from reading and practicing the Al Quran by providing support, one of which is through this Braille Al Quran donation,” said Gita Fatmawati as the Team of the Da’wah Services Division of Dompet Dhuafa.
