He added that the food package assistance is expected to ease the burden on disadvantaged relatives. The Punggur Teluk Waheng landfill area is selected as a distribution location because the area’s residents are scrap collectors (scavengers). Most of the residents are also old nomads from various regions.

“The people here deliberately stayed because of their daily work collecting garbage bottles to sell,” explained Baharuddin, Chairman of RT 03/RW 023, Kabil Village, during the distribution process.

Bahar welcomed the action of distributing fidyah to its citizens. Around 60 families occupy the residents of RT 03 itself. In addition, Bahar also invited other residents to RT 01 and RT 03 Kabil Village.

One of the beneficiaries, Hainuddin (70), expressed his gratitude for the food assistance received from the distribution of Dompet Dhuafa. His job as a collector of used bottles from landfills did little to help him support his family. Not to mention that there is still one child he must continue to support to go to school.

“Thank you for your help. I am happy to have this fortune,” Hainuddin said. (Dompet Dhuafa/Muthohar)
