HATAY, TURKIYE — Dompet Dhuafa through the Disaster Management Center (DMC) is also a part of the Indonesia Search and Rescue Team (INASAR), and they search the location of earthquake ruins in Turkiye, Tuesday (14/2/2023)
They are accompanied by Narwan as Response-Recovery Manager of DMC Dompet Dhuafa and dr. Sjarif Darmawan Sp.B who is a hospital surgeon at Rumah Sehat Terpadu Dompet Dhuafa Hospital.
“In the evacuation process of Turkiye earthquake victims this afternoon, we found 5 victims dead. It was located in Çekmece, Antakya District, Hatay Province, Turkiye,” Narwan explained from the site.
“We are exploring disaster-affected locations. But the biggest obstacle is the cold weather,” continued Narwan.
They, together with the INASAR team, walked through the rubble of buildings which were destroyed by the earthquake.
Teşekkür ederim which means thank you, is what the surviving families of the victims always say to Indonesian volunteers on site who were helping to find victims and carrying out the evacuation process.
Using full personal protective equipment (PPE) as well as wearing jackets and body warmers, they monitored and searched through the affected places.
The death toll from the earthquake passed 37,000. A total of 31,643 people died in Turkiye, while more than 5,800 died in Syria.
“Dompet Dhuafa will help in SAR-Evacuation and logistics distribution actions,” Narwan continued.
“Currently, Indonesia is trusted to lead the joint International SAR here, it alternates for seven days. Yes, evacuations will continue to be carried out, until yesterday, survivors were still found, one of which was a pregnant woman,” he said.
Seeing the need for additional manpower assistance, DMC Dompet Dhuafa will immediately set off an additional team consisting of SAR-Evacuation and also Journalists.
“We plan to send additional teams soon to help accelerate the handling of the Turkiye-Syria earthquake response. Please pray and support,” explained Haryo Mojopahit as Chief Executive of DMC Dompet Dhuafa.
