Dompet Dhuafa Rapid Response Team Distributes Aid Following Mount Lewotobi Eruption

EAST FLORES, EAST NUSA TENGGARA – Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), showed renewed activity on Tuesday (June 17, 2025). This eruption was marked by a widespread hot cloud and an ash column rising more than 10 kilometers.

Dompet Dhuafa, through its Disaster Management Center (DMC) and NTT branch, swiftly responded to the emergency situation. Since Wednesday (June 18, 2025), the DMC team has been on-site, distributing various forms of assistance to survivors in Flores Timur.

One of the main focuses of the assistance is the establishment of a community kitchen. This community kitchen was set up to provide daily meals for 69 displaced residents who are sheltering at a self-managed evacuation center in Konga Village, Titehena Sub-district, East Flores.

Additionally, the DMC team is actively distributing clean water to other self-managed evacuation centers in East Flores. Furthermore, on Sunday (June 22, 2025), at the self-managed evacuation center in Waidoko, Ilebura District, Larantuka, DMC distributed hygiene kits and baby kits to ensure the cleanliness and health of the survivors, particularly for families with infants.

According to a report from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), a series of earthquakes were recorded, including blast earthquakes, non-harmonic tremors, deep volcanic earthquakes, and distant tectonic earthquakes. These conditions prompted the PVMBG to raise the status of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki from level III (Alert) to level IV (Warning).

Adi Fahmi Liliwana, a member of the Dompet Dhuafa NTT team at the location, reported that volcanic activity at Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has now subsided. “The people who had evacuated due to the major eruption have returned to their homes. However, at the previous field post (where evacuees are still waiting in line for temporary shelters), there has been an increase, though not significant. The volcano remains at Level 4 (Alert),” explained Adi Fahmi on Sunday (June 22, 2025).
