CIANJUR, WEST JAVA — Earthquake damage is still visible in several areas of Cianjur. Debris lay on the ground. Almost seven months after the earthquake, the disaster still leaves wounds for Cianjur residents, both physical and psychological. Their hope was destroyed, and their homes were also melted down. They were left homeless to shelter and houses of worship to beg for protection.
Through the Cianjur Bangkit Waqf Program, Dompet Dhuafa helped recover the damage caused by the Cianjur earthquake, such as rebuilding mosques affected by the earthquake with a joint waqf mechanism. Previously, Dompet Dhuafa had conducted a survey and careful planning, then Dompet Dhuafa decided to rebuild the Al-Barakah Mosque, which was damaged by the earthquake. The mosque is in Kp. Ranca Picung, Cibulakan Village, Cugenang, Cianjur, West Java. Al-Barakah Mosque is a means of worship and gaining knowledge, such as reciting the Qur’an.
Bintoro, one of the Dompet Dhuafa Construction Team, explained the progress of rebuilding Al-Barakah Mosque is working on practical columns and underwood.

“Today, the construction process has been running for the second week. Hopefully, it will be within the next three months,” Bintoro said at the location on Thursday (15/6/2023).
Meanwhile, Ustaz Arsad Basudi, a member of the Al-Barakah Mosque Prosperity Council (DKM), said that until now, he and other Muslims around the mosque are still praying in a makeshift tent not far from the damaged mosque and impossible to use.
“When it rains, there is a little water from the roofs coming down. And the worst thing is there is a leak,” Ustaz said.
Ustaz Arsad is also very grateful for the Cianjur Bangkit Waqf Program initiated by Dompet Dhuafa in the form of rebuilding damaged mosques. He considered that residents fully supported the presence of Dompet Dhuafa.
“The proof is that every material item for the mosque comes, residents immediately participate in a building without anyone ordering,” he said.
He hoped that the rebuilding of the Al-Barakah Mosque would run smoothly, be full of blessings, and be recognized by Allah Almighty.
“Thank you for being present in our midst and giving the most beautiful gift. I cannot wait to pray in congregation again at the mosque,” Ustaz Arsad explained hopefully. (Dompet Dhuafa/Waqf/ADP)
