SENTANI, JAYAPURADompet Dhuafa’s concentration on providing access to health services in eastern Indonesia according to the pillars of the program continues to be encouraged. This time the Sentani area, Jayapura is the strengthening point. Through Cuma-cuma Health Services (LKC) Papua, Dompet Dhuafa trained 20 students of Nurul Anwar Komba Sentani Islamic Boarding School, Jayapura Regency, Papua, in the Pesantren Youth Health Post Cadre Training, some time ago. Participants were trained and practiced early detection simulations, including checking weight, height, blood sugar tests, uric acid, cholesterol, and at-a-glance screening including cognition, mobilization, nutrition, visual impairment, hearing and mental health.

The step is part of the Youth Healthy Post Program from the collaboration of the Ministry of Health and Dompet Dhuafa. The activity also talks about physical and mental health with the aim of helping adolescent development. As a reinforcement, Dompet Dhuafa has also established Youth Health Posts in Jayapura City including SMAN 1 Jayapura, Muhammadiyah High School, SMKN 3 Jayapura, SMK TIK 8 Jayapura SMK Hikmah Yapis, SMKN 5 Jayapura.

Dompet Dhuafa Papua LKC Coordinator, Tumijan in his speech said that the presence of the Youth Health Post in the Islamic Boarding School is useful for students and santriwati. It will also benefit the community around Yobeh Village, Sentani City District. So that health services from Dompet Dhuafa are getting closer to the community.

“In this activity, the participants were trained to practice simulations of early detection and serve adolescents their age. It is hoped that the participants will be able to understand the health system and be able to maintain their health and avoid all diseases. They are also equipped with public speaking to deliver counseling messages, outreach to residents and speak in front of many people. This also includes training on adolescent psychology, especially adolescent development during puberty. We started the Healthy Youth Post training program in Jayapura Regency at Nurul Anwar Islamic Boarding School,” said Tumijan.

He also explained that the step was taken because the settlement was dominated by agriculture and plantations which became mosquito nests. That became the concern of the LKC Dompet Dhuafa Papua team. The selection of the boarding school was based on the findings of several students with low Hemoglobin (Hb) levels. So that these findings become the concentration and background for activating a school-based Youth Health Post.

Able to Become a Youth Healthy Post Cadre for the Environment

In the training, the pretest and post test become the measure of success indicators. From there it will be read whether there is an increase in knowledge, an increase in skills or vice versa. So that the ability of the participants to become health educators will be monitored and can continue to be improved.

Through Cuma-cuma Health Services (LKC) Papua, Dompet Dhuafa trained 20 students of Pondok Pesantren Nurul Anwar Komba Sentani, Jayapura Regency, Papua, in the Pesantren Youth Health Post Cadre Training, some time ago.

The hope is that this activity will create health cadres who have the ability and become the frontline to help their peers and the surrounding community. Especially the increasing quality to prevent infectious and non-communicable diseases in the boarding school environment and its surroundings.

Nurul Anwar Komba boarding school administrator, Koneta Pujiati, said that the boarding school considers this activity very important for adolescent health. Moreover, the participants are in the growth phase and must get education and insight into their own health and the surrounding environment. What the participants receive can also be transmitted to others.

Pujiati hopes that after the Pos Sehat Remaja cadre training, the pesantren can conduct health checks independently. Both for students in the Nurul Anwar Islamic boarding school and the surrounding community.

“Maybe a friend is sick or a friend is injured. The students of the Youth Health Post cadres can practice directly from the results of this two-day training,” added Pujiati.

Head of Maternal, Child Health and Nutrition Section of Jayapura Health Office, Yanes Ohee also appreciated and thanked Dompet Dhuafa for initiating the Youth Health Post at Nurul Anwar Islamic Boarding School. He added, “The next generation of Papua must be prepared from now on and starts from pregnant women until they give birth. Then how to educate and raise children. So that the current generation is formed from families with good parenting”.
