SUBANG, WEST JAVA —— Dompet Dhuafa officially launched one of its economic empowerment programs, the Communal Pineapple Processing Industry (IKON), in Cirangkong Village, Cijambe District, Subang Regency, West Java, on Wednesday (11/26/2025). This inauguration marks a new chapter for nearly a thousand local pineapple farmers, transforming them from mere suppliers of raw materials into owners of sustainable processing industries.
The inauguration ceremony was solemn, opening with a traditional Badaya dance. Also present were the Board of Trustees and Management of Dompet Dhuafa, program management partners, representatives of officials from West Java Province and Subang Regency, company partners, and the local community.
Symbolically, the inauguration was marked by the pressing of a siren button. The highlight of the event was the handover of Dompet Dhuafa’s shares in PT Asia Agri Nusa worth IDR 2,947,500,000 (two billion nine hundred forty-seven million five hundred thousand rupiah) to the Beneficiaries of the Barokah Agro Lestari Producer Cooperative, confirming that ownership of this industry is in the hands of the community.
In his speech, Dompet Dhuafa Chairman Ahmad Juwaini said that IKON is a manifestation of the responsibility to safeguard zakat, infaq, sadaqah, and waqf (Ziswaf).
“Dompet Dhuafa has been empowering communities for 32 years, continuously striving to help people in five main pillars: Health, Education, Social, Da’wah & Culture, and Economy,” he said.

IKON, which is a continuation of the assistance provided to Cirangkong farmers since 2013, is based on the Philantro-preneurship approach, which is a combination of philanthropy and entrepreneurship that inspires enthusiasm for work and entrepreneurship. Gradually, level by level, Dompet Dhuafa rolls out basic assistance, training, business assistance, and community industry development. IKON is a form of responsibility to safeguard something that is useful and has added value.
“For us, the Communal Industry is an economic empowerment model that is collectively owned and managed by the beneficiary community (mustahik), using zakat and productive waqf funds, with the aim of achieving long-term independence and prosperity,” explained Ahmad Juwaini.
He added that IKON recruits nearly 1,000 people in one cooperative, which is then managed with Ziswaf funds, ensuring that “the owners are the community.” The results of this industry are not only pineapples, but also high-value derivative products such as jam, paste, and concentrated juice.
In line with this, Dompet Dhuafa Board of Trustees member Rahmad Riyadi hopes that IKON will become an “icon for other fruit products.” This is because the machines designed in this factory are flexible and can be used to process any type of fruit, expanding the potential for empowerment.
The Head of the Subang Agriculture Office, Bambang Suhendar, representing the Regent of Subang, welcomed this program. He stated that IKON is in line with the regional agenda in the downstreaming of agricultural products.
“In economic terms, the value has multiplied by up to 300%. The presence of IKON will be very helpful, as their (farmers’) products will be easily absorbed,” said Bambang. He also committed that the Regent of Subang would fully support the IKON program.
Meanwhile, the Assistant for Economy & Development of West Java, Sumasna, representing the Governor of West Java, praised the consistency of Dompet Dhuafa, which has been steadfast in Cirangkong since 2013.
“We believe Dompet Dhuafa has a way of promoting standardized and uniform pineapple quality. This communal industry is a new business process that may face extraordinary challenges in the economic context. Insha Allah, we will share the tasks, and the West Java Government will prepare free train carriages for agriculture and livestock,” said Sumasna, demonstrating the synergy between philanthropy, the community, and the local government.

The inauguration of IKON Subang is expected to strengthen synergy in the integrated agricultural sector, as well as become a pilot model for strengthening the people’s economy based on local commodities in Indonesia.
