PRINGSEWU, LAMPUNG —— Less than 40 days remain until Eid al-Adha 1443 Hijri. As Eid al-Adha approaches, Dompet Dhuafa Lampung is stepping up its efforts to prepare high-quality sacrificial animals.
Health checks are a top priority in Dompet Dhuafa’s efforts to provide high-quality sacrificial animals. Dompet Dhuafa Lampung is committed to providing the best quality sacrificial animals for donors, namely the sacrificial groups. In line with the MUI Fatwa, the rules for sacrificing animals affected by PMK are detailed as follows:

- Animals infected with PMK with mild clinical symptoms, such as mild blisters on the hooves, lethargy, loss of appetite, and excessive salivation, are valid for use as sacrificial animals.
- Animals infected with PMK with severe clinical symptoms, such as blisters on the hooves that cause them to fall off and/or cause lameness/inability to walk and cause emaciation, are not valid as sacrificial animals;
- Animals infected with PMK with severe clinical symptoms that have recovered from PMK within the period allowed for sacrifice (10th to 13th of Dhu al-Hijjah) are valid as sacrificial animals;
- Animals infected with PMK with severe clinical symptoms that recover from PMK after the period allowed for sacrifice (10th to 13th of Dzulhijjah) are considered charity, not sacrificial animals.
This initiative was recently carried out by Dompet Dhuafa Lampung on Tuesday (May 31, 2022), considering the MUI fatwa on sacrificial animals affected by PMK, which states that animals affected by PMK with mild clinical symptoms can be used as sacrificial animals. However, Dompet Dhuafa continues to maintain its commitment to the health of livestock at the DD Farm Lampung sheep pen in Pringsewu Regency, Lampung. Dompet Dhuafa collaborates with the Animal Health Center (Puskeswan) Region 3 of Pringsewu Regency.
“Veterinarians help monitor, provide vitamins, and administer various vaccines. Healthy and unblemished sacrificial animals are the primary requirement for Dompet Dhuafa’s sacrificial animals. This, of course, refers to the requirements according to Islamic law. In addition to being healthy and unblemished, the age and weight of the animals are also taken into consideration,” said the Head of the Dompet Dhuafa Lampung Branch, Yogi Achmad Fajar, on Wednesday (June 1, 2022).

Yogi explained that this year Dompet Dhuafa Lampung has prepared more than 400 sheep for the Tebar Hewan Kurban program. Dompet Dhuafa Lampung will distribute the sacrificial animals to various areas in need, even to remote areas of Lampung.
“We want to provide the best sacrificial animals for the slaughterhouses and also the beneficiaries of the Tebar Hewan Kurban program, most of whom rarely or never receive sacrificial meat,” explained Yogi.
The Head of the Regional Animal Health Center 3 of Pringsewu Regency, Dr. Suhatiah, appreciated Dompet Dhuafa Lampung’s efforts in maintaining the health of sacrificial animals. Especially now that foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) is spreading in several regions in Indonesia.
“We are happy to be able to work together with Dompet Dhuafa Lampung to ensure the health of the sacrificial animals. Alhamdulillah, Dompet Dhuafa Lampung’s sacrificial animals are healthy because we monitor them regularly,” said Suhatiah.
Suhatiah also hopes that not only Dompet Dhuafa Lampung, but also all livestock farmers and businesses will prepare and maintain their animals more strictly. (Dompet Dhuafa / Arlen)
