BOGOR, WEST JAVA – Sekolah Guru Indonesia (SGI) is committed to nurturing transformative teachers with competencies in teaching, educating, social spirit, and leadership. With a commitment to strengthening teacher leadership, SGI targets Indonesian youth who are ready to dedicate themselves as teachers and contribute to the educational advancement across Indonesia. SGI is prepared to foster generations of teachers dedicated to Indonesia.
Celebrating its 14th anniversary, SGI marked the occasion with the theme “Teacher Leadership to Realize Independent Learning” at the Learning Hall of the Human Development Institute (Lembaga Pengembangan Insani – LPI) Dompet Dhuafa. In addition to a ceremonial cake cutting, SGI also organized a workshop on this anniversary.
SGI Chairman Asep Ihsanudin stated that the concept of teacher leadership has been a key element in the implementation of programs developed by SGI from the beginning. Teacher leadership involves the ability of an educator to create fresh ideas as alternatives for educational progress in the country.

“This change must start from the classroom, with the teacher as a leader in the realm of teaching (intellectual trust) and as a leader in the pedagogical realm (social and moral trust),” said Asep.
Asep explained that SGI, initially known as Sekolah Guru Ekselensia Indonesia (SGEI), was inaugurated on October 24, 2009, by the Regent of Bogor. The inception of SGI reflects Dompet Dhuafa’s commitment to empowering and improving the quality of teachers. SGEI was an innovative product from the Education Laboratory, which then expanded into a network of education divisions within Dompet Dhuafa, and was renamed Sekolah Guru Indonesia (SGI) on February 8, 2012.
“In its 14th year, SGI will continue to enhance the leadership quality of teachers in Indonesia. The benefits of the SGI program have been felt by 4,914 outstanding teachers in 34 provinces across Indonesia, who are intensively nurtured and serve as drivers for the sustainability of benefits to tens of thousands of other teachers,” Asep revealed.

The 14th anniversary of SGI was attended by hundreds of alumni and SGI benefit recipients from all over Indonesia, including Mulyadi Saputra, Head of LPI DD, Asep Sapaat, SGI Demissioner, Cicih Kurniasih, and Najmi Ridha Syabani. The event aimed to strengthen the solidarity of SGI alumni/activists and gather ideas for teaching development from educational leaders, as well as to foster networking. (Dompet Dhuafa/AR)
