Floods and Landslides in South Coast: Dozens of Victims Missing, Dompet Dhuafa Holds Search Operation

SOUTH PESISIR, WEST SUMATRA — Floods and landslides occurred in South Pesisir Regency, West Sumatra on Sunday (10/3/2024). Some of the victims are still missing. For this reason, Dompet Dhuafa through the Disaster Management Center (DMC) Response Team, Dompet Dhuafa Singgalang Branch together with DD Volunteer West Sumatra also went down to carry out search operations for victims of floods and landslides in the South Coast.

One of the Dompet Dhuafa DMC team, Firdaus, reported that the DMC team and the joint SAR team from BASARNAS, TNI, Polri to the local community were still struggling to carry out search operations for three missing victims in Nagari Langgai, Sutera District, Pesisir Selatan Regency.

In the flood and landslide areas of South Pesisir, the search process is divided into three points. Namely in Koto XI Tarusan Subdistrict, Bayang Subdistrict, and Sutera Subdistrict.

“The latest update is that three victims are still missing and still being searched. Due to the approaching Maghrib time, the search will continue on Sunday,” explained Firdaus from the location.

According to Antara News, as of Sunday (11/3/2024) morning, Head of Padang SAR Office, Abdul Malik stated that since the floods and landslides occurred on Thursday (7/3/2024), the number of victims who died was recorded at 23. Then four people are still being searched.

Abdul also plans to extend the search process for the next three days. The government of Pesisir Selatan Regency, West Sumatra, has declared an emergency response period for flash floods for 14 days starting from March 8, 2024.
